deerhoundx grey

Recommended Posts

just to let you all know ive just put my name on a deerhound x grey (first x)

2 reasons i have chose this x

1/ is that in my 15 yrs of having lurchers ive not had one that has filled my expectations

ie one not doing this one not doing that ,the closest i had WAS a deer grey x beddy grey and she was good i shit out and not bred off her (sick as)but a good bitch @23" (pre ban)a year old in 1996 had them all

then i had that one ,a saluki grey x bull some where down line a hard bitch but not much upstairs but excellent fox retriever. then?

a whippet x as rabbits were very abundant so i thought? a good rabbitting bitch will do ,but good at rats, rabbits ok if she was was in right mood ,could stay with a hare all day (coursing lines from norfolk) but she had no killer instict apart from her smaller game to her RATS

then i went for a well bred bitch from appleby a one off breeding 3/4 grey 1/4 german shep her father solo from mr ratcher

bitch ex racer so i thought i'd cracked it

good intelligent bitch but not 100% on big stuff but she was entered well not too young etc SO

2ndly -it could be my last lurcher as im 37 next and if this dog makes the grade and retires an old one i'll be 50 ish and if she does nt make i 'll say to myself im not a lurcherman and pack the k9's in and get the .243 out

ps hope she makes it as i love my dogs more than the rifle job but both is hard if you have a troublesome quarry

thanks for reading

By christ mate, thats a downer of a write up if ever there was..!

The thing is, if you are looking for the 'ultmate all rounder', well then to be honest, they really ain't that common!!

You really seem to have tried a few different types, maybe your own expectations are a little high? Yep, in a few years with running dogs i have had a few that just wernt my cup of tea but those that at least made an effort I always tried to work with and made the best of, even though I knew all to well their shortcomings, with plenty of good times along the way.

I suppose what i'm trying to say is that, at 37, your next dog shouldn't be your last based on what has gone before. If running dogs are a passion you should still be out there till you drop, I hope I am!! You pays your money and takes your pup, with the best breeding and entering you can still get onions, it's always a bit of a gamble but thats just part and parcel of working dogs!

I wish you all the best with your new charge and many years with running dogs.

i dont have great expectations for owning a good all rounder as they are hard to come by, but what i dont like is for me to tell you lot as it is and for some knob to get on my back like stewie to critisise my honest post

yes i can take critism but if he was an english teacher i would have respect for him to tell me to edit my post

2 i never mentioned killing any dog

3 if its shit and you dont "waste it" what could you possibly do with it????

4 if you dont have high expectations in a dog, why bother???

5 its an open public forum, you normally get criticism on these

6 im not an english teacher just remember my basic schooling

7 its not rocket science to get a good dog, look around plenty before you buy one in that way you dont end up with shit, or even better breed your own

8 your post was honest and so was i

9 good luck with your new dog
