first cross collie x greyhound any good for coursing big ears

would say a 3/4 bred may do job local feilds for a run or 2 , but not on good land , will not have the lungs to stay 3 runs or more , get yourself a coursing bred saluki / saluki hybrid , bred for the job , , not saying collie x's cant run a good hare because they can , but you get a dog suited to what you run most , i dont lamp , therfore dont have a lamping dog , i have salukis in get my drift

 

the collie based dog is a good ALL ROUND dog IMO good for bit mooching during day and can make cracking lamping dogs , cant find many faults with them , but not many would take a 1st cross collie greyhound to the fen to run 3 hares .

yes fen hares way to strong collie cross not enough wind for 3 out of 3 but will still take a fen hare all manner of crosses were taking fen hares years befer the saluki came on the scene but your right salukis are the fen dogs no question.good hunting

Nice dog. Deer/Greys seem to be the all rounder of choice for alot of folk now.

F1x greyhound x collies are not hare dogs but [bANNED TEXT] crossed to other lurcher breeds produce dogs more than capeable.Some of the best hare dogs i have seen free of saluki blood in the years i ran a small courseing club [late 70s early 80s] were a mix of deerhound greyhound bred back to collie greys these hybreds were a class above their f1x parents and one of the reasons i prefer lurcher to lurcher bred dogs over f1x or 3 quarter bred dogs.atb dell

spot on Dell, the 1x collie grey to a salukix grey or a deehoundx grey, make very good lurchers. The 1x colliexgrey is the start of your lurcher line i think for edible game. But you do get some fast 1x collie greys, i have one With Bryn. He is fast for a 1x collie grey not a daytime hare, but in the lamp will catch any edible quarry.

Im hoping to put my saluki/whip/grey over a collie/grey/deer/grey if he turns out a gooden in a few years.

 

Should make for good all rounders I reckon.

Thats the way to go as most of the good collie/grey x grey/deerhound [bANNED TEXT] lads put them back over coursing greyhounds the offspring were not as good as far as stamina and durability went.
