also should have my interview about same time, but dont really want to do all the stalking want to do mostly grouse and pheasant so might have to choose another course maybe like hillkeeper101 said, unless they could put me on a estate which do that, what else do you know about it terrier john?

not much really just what i've been told from a couple of keepers

all i know really is its a 2 year course in highland gamekeeping and its mostly grouse and deer stalking

and if you go to the first interview and if you already have a placement then you dont need to go to the second

but if no placement then there is 2 interviews the second being with different estates that will hopefully take you on a placement

also everyone i've spoke to about it say its the best college for highland gamekeeping in scotland and as in said you only at the college for 1 week a month the rest of the month you are on your placement

its maybe the best for deer stalking, but most deffinetly not the best for grouse or pheasant from what the lads i know who have been through there .but it doesnt really matter anymore aslong as you have a college quailifaction you should be alrite .one thing id say is try get a placement with grouse or pheasant interests because thats where you will learn most if not all you will learn in college

It depends entirely on the estate you end up working on while doing the course. If you could find an estate that had a mixture of grouse, pheasant, deer, partridge it would be better for you as you would get experience of all, then decide later what you liked best.

i was told off the head keeper of lernie estate in aberdeenshire that he will give me a placement and from what i hear its a good mixed estate but the keeper hasnt been back in touch yet to confirm everything and its been torture trying to get hold of him

though a few year back i helped a keeper(unpaid)for 8 months feeding pheasants a bit of hard graft and vermin control

and have done grouse beating for 4 seasons and i must admit just doing the grouse beating on the particular moor i was on was a right hard day so if i was to have the choice i think i would prefer to do pheasant as a permanent job although if grouse keeping was there for me i wouldnt knock it back

but we will see what happens with placement by the time april comes

thats what i like about the course your at the placement most of the time doing hands on learning, i dont think any other courses are like that are they?? And i mainly want to do the pheasant and grouse side of it really and less of the deer, if i had the choice that is. maybe it is worth asking if i could get placed in a estate that does mostly that, maybe could mention something at the interview saying if i was successful getting on the course could it be possible etc etc

f**k the pheasants! If you get a job on a grouse moor/deer forest it's a much better deal, especially if they rear the pheasants!
