Jamie m 668
If he works normally he might not be entering as there might not be any rabbits in there Quote Link to post
stubby 175
sounds like your expecting one hob ferret to work all day, are you resting him between warrens, feeding him, giving water hobs are slower workers, I would advise you get at least a couple of jills to work alongside him Quote Link to post
The one 8,504
I allow one ferret per ten holes ,what size of burries are you working him in ,and how long? Quote Link to post
martnmagik 68
I allow one ferret per ten holes ,what size of burries are you working him in ,and how long? the warrens i work are only small the biggest being a 7 holer and he is worked for no longer than 3 hours at any time. if i see a rabbit run to ground he will still sometimes refuse to enter despite all my efforts to get him to. Cause i prefer them to have a small run 6ft or something Cause there alot fitter that way.... I seen the diffrence in mine work wise when i swapped a hutch for run he has a 5x3ft hutch sat on top of an old chest of drawers with holes drilled through so he can climb up and down the levels and also a 4ft run attached to the side(its a proper cowboy job but does the trick)he is really active in the hutch and the kids have always got him out in the yard playing. its just when he works he goes lazy... could he be getting to much exercise maybe? theferreter 311
as said mate get yourself more ferrets to share the work load you cant be expecting 1 hob ferret to work all day Quote Link to post
Tiny 7 1,694
I wouldnt of thought so IMHO... Try it though to see Id get another in then if thats case, No point in going ferreting with a ferret that refuses too go down after a couple of hours work IMHO.... Quote Link to post
ferrettom 0
try and rest him between warrens and give him a drink, but as others have said you cant expect him to work all day Quote Link to post
ryangolding 4
My jill called sas is one of the best little workers ive ever had, once she starts working you cant stop her, she'll work all day bolting plenty of rabbits every time, so training her daughter up with sas, so hopefully have another little bellter!!! I think I got a pair like that, ones bigger than the other, and its the bigger jill thats more aggressive both when ferreting and when I have them indoors playing. The rabbits dont know which one is the pussy though... They are this year young so theres planty of time yet. Quote Link to post
The one 8,504
Aye theres ferrets and theres ferrets ,its no every ferret that makes the grade .Its up to yourselve if you want to keep trying him or cut your loses .A good working ferret costs the same to feed as a poor one Quote Link to post
