spot on , no dog of any breed as locking jaw fact, all dogs jaws are the same some big+ small . Its the (tenacity) that makes the dog lock its jaw. i had a colliexgrey in 90s, that would kill a fox,even when dead would not loose the fecker, he locked is jaw and strong it was as well.

+1 Agree with others posting their answers. A dog with a ton of drive may "seem" to lock its jaws but its just their want or desire that keeps them from letting go.

No, it's a misconception. Dogs have two types of bite, locking and scissor. It's to do with the way the teeth sit with the dog's mouth shut. In a scissor bite the top teeth overlap the bottom, and on a locking bite the teeth interlock.

To be fair its faf all to do wit the dogs drive agression or any other bullcrap .... Its all in the muscle located in said animals jaw and how they apply it for instanse i recently watched a test done on a bull terrier a am bulldog a mastiff and a rotty the rotty had more power measured in lb per square inch anyone on here will happily boast about the power and drive in the bullterrier so surely it should have won hands down but it was third after the ab to .i would also say that a jrt had more drive and agression than the averege dogue debor or mastiff although i doubt very much of you would choose the larger dogs bite simply because the terrier had more drive and attitude when it would be clear if the intention to hole you was the plan of eather larger breed it would be no easy task to remove the dog. Most people think pitbulls can lock there jaws but its the power and fitness in the jaw muscle along with every other muscle in there body that makes this old wives tail almost believable to the averege joe.

What a complete pile of nonsense !!...if you want to call me a c**t then thats cool but if you pay no attention to anything else pay attention to this...A DOG BITES HARD BECAUSE HE WANTS TO !....simple.

 

A pit bull does not bite hard because he has powerful jaw muscles,ive seen dogs of this breed with poor head,poor neck and poor dentition that could bite like a croc....ive also seen dogs with big powerful strong head/jaw structure that couldnt break a crisp packet !

 

The fact a pitbull is outpowered by a rottweiler 3 times its size and weight proves what exactly ?

 

As an old man once told me " better to keep your mouth closed and have it look like you know nothing,than to open your mouth and prove it "

 

In answer to the question,no...locking jaws is a myth made up by idiots who never took the time to learn !
