when we go away, we like to get away from what we know, feel the culture, exsperience there ways of living. Much more chilled out than ours...

Thats exactly what i like to do,when im on holiday !....going to live in a different culture speaking a language i dont know......thats not my idea of fun.....

I love the greek islands Zante,Rhodes,Kos etc etc all beautiful places with great food, climate and culture but i couldnt live there.......no,give me a sun soaked Spanish villa surrounded by my fellow cockneys, that will do me for the last period of life

Interesting stuff folks, I have been resident outside the uk since '87, but still feel its my home, HOWEVER, things move on and not always for the best.

Talking to a lot of Brit expats here in Australia and in NZ and South Africa where I get an odd gig, many say rather like one of our contributers, "Oh I'd like a versiion of Britain with better weather". Whilst, they are, splendid in so many ways the aforementioned countries are, they are NOT, UK with better weather. They have their own unique culture, issues and problems.

The grass is never greener, only ever a different shade.

For those who are serious I would now pick NZ over Oz. Mind you they have outlawed the keeping of ferrets! Due to their feral ferret problem so for me it can only ever be a "working holiday" destination. Trap 'em or keep 'em. Well I prefer to keep 'em. (and so should they given their rabbit issues)

P.S. There are NO feral ferret populations in OZ, yet the wee fellers are "illegals" in QLD about the least likely state in the land for them to set up a feral population. And, if you thought Govt. dinilos were a UK only species, Oh, how wrong you are, we have a special breed here, any wetter you could shoot ducks off them.

got quite a few pals in southern spain and familey been going there for 6 years and nearley bought about 5 year ago im so glad i didnt the houses i looked at were 220 thousand euro across the board there now 90 thousand euro ,which makes it within my grasp to buy one but the next problem is there is very few jobs that are well paying .

I then thought of nz ,oz but the one wanted the most was usa mrs not keen on oz or nz because of the distance so im getting back to my original career and getting extra qualifications and will consider going for it in about 4p5 years.

Not so much as emigrate but would like to move to the North West coast of Scotland around Ullapool or further North to get away from the urban sprawl

A lot of your fellow countrymen have the same idea as were l live on the Western Isles most of the houses for sale are bought by Englishmen and at least they try to fit in to our communities unlike some of the foreigners who come to Britain...

cheers Callum

yes i think its 45 cut off and if you go the trade route you need to choose a trade on there shortage list and double check as some trades we have i.e plasterer is not even recognised as that comes under decorater, and somtimes if its a technical trade they need a time served apprenticeship (3-4)years in a recognised company sighned off by a regulated body aswell as the c&guilds or nvq certificates also they like you to have at least 2 years experience on your tools after your apprenticeship has been validated .....theres a load involved but if its somthing you really want to do you would be best getting hold of the embassy and be stright with them and asking there advice or what they recommend
