Let it snow

This is turning into a habit. Again another possible fox sight at the end of the night last night. Today Niall texts me wondering am I going out tonight, as does John! Well, why not.

 

The signs are ominous towards evening, large, heavy looking clouds moving slowly across the sky, promised cold too. We all meet up at the farm John has christened "Jurassic Park", as we can only shoot half of it with gorse. It's the same farm I've been prowling around the previous two nights.

 

Off we go to our stations, Niall & myself are down where I was stood the night before with the .223. John is positioned up top of the hill with his lightforce and SBS. We're not there very long when we get flashed by John's lamp. That's the signal one of our friends in red has been sighted.

 

Both of us are dressed for inclement weather, Niall in a sailing suit and me in my oiler trousers, needless to say our ascent of the hill is not lacking a discreet rustle or two of waterproof material. Anyway we get positioned on a rock and shine around.

 

The fox has come in from the Jurassic Park side of the farm, an unusual but not entirely unheard of approach. The area we're surveying has a lot of scrub trees and bushes and our fox has gone into these. But the flicker of eyes is moving downhill towards the clearing.

 

Once the fox emerges from behind cover and starts across the green I let out a yap! The fox stops for a look and Niall makes sure that fox isn't bother by the cold night any longer.

 

About 145 yards, vixen.

 

 

Just hope the farmer hasn't tripped over her on the way in home

 

After another while we left Jurassic Park and headed to the valley, saw three foxes but it was snowing/sleeting at this stage and things didn't work out well enough for a shot. Not having a clearly thought out plan of attack for the valley hampered us in this regard methinks.

 

Still, plenty more foxes for other nights. My diary is booked up solid for the weekend now, otherwise I'd be off out first thing in the morning just before it gets light to arrive and check snow tracks! (and so ye lads have the chance to catch up ).
