BRAN 0
Have a situation, have young dog eight months with a hairy fleece for a jacket! Older dog bit the pup and left a big enough hole. Brought him to local vet who cleaned wound, and told me it would heal soon enough The pup still has the same size of hole, pretty bizarre as the wound is not infected(quite clean) but still looks as fresh as it was over six weeks ago! It doesn't annoy the pup at all, but me looking at it! Anybody have thoughts on this? The dog's jacket is extremely thick and long.
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Sounds good as gold mate. Honestly. Dog bites, as the old saying goes, rarely go bad. Fox bites most often do Thing with deep puncture wounds is that they Must heal from the inside out. It's when they get blocked off at the top - and something nasty starts to ferment down inside there - that shit happens. One or both Dogs will likely lick that or any wound. Their saliva and mildly abrasive tounges will keep it clean and healing, till it seals up tight as a drum and, quite frankly, often better than original skin. Keep an eye on it. But I shouldn't be unduly concerned

juckler123 707
Have you cut the coat from round the bite as fur keep getting trapped in the wound not help the healing process
Cyndi 0
Excellent advice juckler123. I worked for a vet for years. We always shaved the hair around a wound to make sure no hair inhibits the healing process. I use electric clippers but you can use scissors to remove the hair close to the skin too. I bet it will heal then.
Squirrel_Basher 17,100
The lad has already had the dog to the vets and they would have shaved the area before doing anything , I hope .If the dog can reach the area to lick it ,then contrary to others beliefs ,this will prolong the healing.Fit the dog with a plastic anti bite vet collar and wash the wound with hibi scrub twice a day .A squirt of wound powder on it after wards will start the closing process.Pay special attention to cleaning the edges of the wound as this is where trouble starts if its going to .Dont worry about washing off any scab that forms early on as the day will come when the scab will be too well formed to wash off .Good luck and let us know how it gets on .Pm me if you want mate .
