"IVE USED THAT TYPE OF SLIP LEAD FOR OVER 25 YRS ":cry:

Kinell over 25 years...i only came up with it about 4 years ago, after not wishing to carry on running a dog with a collar on and using rope or a leather lead with the clip cut off. I also tried a fancy leather one with a spring release thinking these must be ideal  ...I couldn't stand using it. The one described works a treat and is easily put in a pocket. If its lost, so what just make another. If a dog can be strangled/choked by this slip someone please explain how!!!

DUCKWING, I was referring to T.F.Student's comment about 'only coming up with it 4 years ago'.

Of course, he (or she) might not have meant it that way, and I've only taken it that way because internet forums are deviod of emotion.

As you say, there's nothing new in this game ;)

Personaly i found your reply somewhat insulting, as if to say i haven't got any comman sense. I wasn't giving any advice to anyone it was a question thats why i added the question mark to the end. I did not take it as gospel, this is exactly the reason i posted it in this thread just to see other peoples views on the idea......I didn't want a totaly un called for remark insulting my inteligence. If i said ''Don't use a collar because it will restrict your dogs breathing.'' then i would totaly understand where you are coming from but i didn't. Your right i do not know it all i don't even pretend to, Do you know it all?......i doubt it. If before anyone can give advice they had to know it all or even know alot then there would be no one to give advice because no one knows it all and know one ever will, There is only a hand full of members who i would say know alot. There is always something new to learn. Thats what im on here to do, i want to further my knowlege of the running dog game. If it wasn't for people like me there wouldn't be a future for this sport. I really do regret ever allowing anyone on the forum to know my age, all i ever get from it is hastle. Its the first thing that anyone resorts to when ever they read something i have posted that they dont like. I get banded as a kid which to most automaticly asume means im a messer, well at the end of the day im out lamping more than alot if not most of the members on here but it still doesn't matter, im under 25 so i must be a messer.

Thanks for taking the time to read a messers post.

Ive used collar's and bit's of rope for a while now and seen and had no problem's at all.. what i have seen though is bite marks and gouges out of the leather on the big greyhound collar's where teeth and barbed wire have hit them and if the collar's where not present the skin would of been ripped and punctured..

Plus the collar's spread the pressure when a 65+ pound dog pull's like feck when it spot's it quarry in the distance thus stopping it choking and coughing and in doing so giving the game away..

All's i use is the grey collar's with a spliced loop in the end of some 7mm rope..cheap and effective.. :good: ..

Millet

spot on millet i use the exact same ...i got sick of loseing leads... :)

Here are 2 iv made, iv used the thin one for the last 2 weeks and the thicker one was made today and has never been used. I wanted somthing abit easyier on the hands. Iv got a proper leather slip lead that works in a similar fashion it has a collar with a d ring on each end with a 2 leather strips on one of the d rings, one with a wrist loop and the second strip loops through the second d ring. It was a waste of money.

I used to use a piece of rope looped through the collar but personaly i like this method and i have found that it stops my dog from pulling when on the slip, as i lamp on my own it make life abit easier for me.

I find that a length of flat nylon tape with a loop for the wrist at one end and a smaller loop stitched back on itself at the other for the trigger fingers works well as it slides out from under the collar with minimum resistance....

I have tried these in the past Bolio, same sort of method as using nylon rope, didn't find a problem with them, just found nylon rope easier to come across.

BTW, that is a very smart dog you have there

Hey Witton, keep asking the questions, mate. I've been in this game over 40 years and still ask questions/advice.

Duckwing, not having a go mate, just a little story from an old computer illiterate; When I was talking to my daughter on MSN, she asked why was I shouting ? I asked what are you on about ? She said take the caps lock off !!! It's considered shouting or patronising in computer speak.

Cheers.
