collars are handy to have on!! when pulling off stuff!!

when on hot ground i walk the footpaths with those slip leads gundog people use i just turn round and push through the collar and put the loop end round wrist if any one comes "i finished work late and am just walking my fit black labrador and i use the lamp as its easy to carry and have it for work as a pest controller" worked twice so far......most people my way have no idea!!

bit of rope otherwise

them slip leads you buy from shows are bad as me and blackpack was walking on a road and the bloody thing opend on its own and if it was a busy road or a car was coming well you dont want to think what might happen IMO i think the lad that posted this topic his idea is gd and that what we started using and finding it very gd and i will use it on my lurcher in the future ;)

we used to use the free version made out of bailer twine

:icon_eek::icon_eek::icon_eek:

I couldn't imagine having nothing but bailing twine around my dogs neck, especially when he sees a pair of eyes in the red beam ;) , he would cough and choke like an old man, always collar on for me and blue nylon rope as a slip, never had a problem I just couldn't control a dog without a collar on :blink: !

never used a collar always a rope chocker and if im takeing more than one dog one off and one on chocker i like them free as a bird for lamping ,if i do leash them for slipping etc , i use a web collar and a bit of webbing for slipping i hold the two ends and let one go ,good idea crow with the rope slip as long as its thick and supple for there kneck etc all the best

well i think collars do more good than harm, i always run my dogs with a collar on as they provide that bit extra protection around the neck and there handy for getting the dogs off quarry quickly.....

i use a length of leather (horse bridle reigns with the ends cut off) and just slip it through the dogs collar. ;)

Be very carefull using a thin drawcord. My Dad made a slip lead out of something similar, somehow during the Nights Lamping in between Runs the cord had wrapped around his Finger. He flicked on the lamp and spotted a Rabbit well out, as he started to get a bit closer the Rabbit was up and Running. The Dog spotted the Rabbit so my Dad slipped him, as the Dog shot off he felt a sharp stinging pain in his Finger. The Dog missed the Rabbit and came back to hand then my Dad put the Lamp on his Finger as the pain was starting to kick in. When he put the Lamp on his Finger, it was GONE :icon_eek: , there was only the Bone there, his Mate who was with him took one look at his missing Finger and passed out :laugh: . He had to go back to the Farmhouse to get the Farmer to take him to Hospital as his Mate was unsafe to Drive as he kept on feeling faint :laugh: . The Hospital cleaned him up and he returned the next morning to have the operation to remove the Bone.

says it all try training your dog works wonders

I don't know what you run mate, but I know that when my dog see's them eyes in the red filter (and I dont mean bunnies eyes either ;) ), no matter how well trained he is, he wants to get at it, without a collar on it would be impossible to control him, with bailing twine wrapped round his neck, I would kill the poor b.astard!!!! With the bunnies he is fine, but with the red 'uns, he goes crazy, wouldn't want it any other way!!!!!

Ive had plenty of dogs that will take charlie and never had trouble with em once theyve grown up i just cant be doing with a puller i lamp on me own a lot of the time so walking and watching at heel is essential its no fun trying to lamp with a dog rearing and bucking on the lead i lamp with the dogs free a lot so i train em to go when told and if you had read my first post properly you would have seen i said i hadnt seen a slip like that in years but if i was stuck i wouldnt hesitate to use a bit of bailer at the end of the day if the dogs on a lead it should be collared if its a puller as it dont take much to damage their neck imo its not hard to train your dog to be still it helps loads when your calling charlies in all the best juckler

the dog in my avatar is 11mths and sat watching a course

It wasnt ment like that so get off your high horse, i said when running. ie as the dog runs and needs to take in as much air as possible to fill the lungs the collar can stop the wind pipe from expanding and being as open as it would with out the collar, So the lungs fill that bit slower. I dont know if this has any real effect, its just somthing i have been told and in away it sounds reasonable.
