hello all i feel abit stupid asking this but i think blaze has separation anxiety.

basically on the 1st day i got him he walked around my flat crying alittle bit but would come n sit by my feet and go to sleep and ever since that day if i go out the room or leave him for like 5 seconds he would bark ,cry and even mess him self until i would get back now i didnt mollycoddle him i believe in firm but even and nice approach to dogs etc and im starting to get complaints from neighbours etc and its getting to the point where i have to ask my mate who lives locally to come over just while i go to the shops to get the basic of stuff (im 21 living on my own and i cant afford to risk being kicked out as il have no where else to go) . ive been leaving him for short periods to build it up and to get him used to me not always being there 24/7 obviously im not going to leave him alone for no longer than a few hours at a time. im not going to pass/sell blaze on just because i dont believe in that as they say when the going gets tough ,tough get going. also will this hick up in blazes behaviour have a affect on his working ability and also training to be honests has stopped at the moment i feel we need to get over this quiet big problem in blazes behaviour first but when i can feel blaze is in the mood the listen and get results we do abit but i do try to do alittle and often everyday.

How old is the dog, mate... what kind is he.. And how often are you taking him out?? Is he being tired? Are you socializing him with other people other than your mate. Is he seeing different surroundings?

Theres lots of questions that need to be answered before anybody can prescribe what is actually up with the dog. And what is causing the anxiety...

 

We really need to know the age of the dog...

hi runforyourlife blaze is coming up 12weeks and he is a collie x bed whippet x grey x deerhound and atm the moment im restricted to where and how long i can take him (because hes only had his 1st injection and i play with him about a couple of hours aday in the communal garden).he meets loads of people as my friend is a youth worker and only lives down/works down the road soo atm hes being carried there.

Collies can be like this but they are a hardy dog, and usually grow out of it... they have a skitty side to them, and behave differently than a lot of other dogs...

 

Just take your time with him.. carry on as you are. play with him, tire him.. Dont mother him to much,(but give him affection) altho this is in the long run doesnt seem to effect a lot of dogs...Take your time with him mate. He will also be pineing for his mother and other cyblings which he has grown up with in his so far short life... When you start letting him have a run around, things will change, i am quite sure. you need to give the pup someway of relieving his stress, you leaving him is freaking him out

 

If ya got to keep a dog inside like that, get one of those crates,,it will do a numbers of things

 

it will help with house breaking

 

also gives the pup somewhere it feels safe,,it will help cut down on the little fecker having a panic attack everytime you leave the room, it gets him used to his own company

 

if you leave in chews and things , he will happly release stress by way of chewing instead of crying ,you got to introduce it nice and handy though, feed him in it , let him play in it,

 

at the start put him in for a few minutes with you there, gradually increase the time, when you have him happy with himself in it, when your in another room ,you've got it cracked,

walk him where no other dogs are likely to have been to wear him out, then feed him, then he should ready to sleep. leave the tv on. my pup was the same , doesnt last long mate. atb

I agree with the crate. My pup is good as gold in his. They don't have to be small either. Mine is 48" x 28" and 32" tall.

 

He eats in his crate, sleeps in it for 12 hours straight without a whimper and goes in there if we go out in the day.

 

It gets alot easier when they are jabbed up though and can have some good excersise. If I take the pup for a run across fields he goes in his crate and sleeps for a few hours of his own accord with crate door open.

My pup is naughty out of the crate. I wasn't asking how to stop him playing at all, but you know that.

 

I was just telling the lad my experience so far. My pup hasn't it separation anxiety and is good as gold when left alone.

I AGREE.HAD ATERRIER THAT USED TO BE A YELPER .PUT HIM IN CRATE WITH A BLANKET OVER THE TOP SO COULDNT SEE AND LEFT RADIO ON WHEN I WENT OUT'ATB
