ryanwylie 0
I am after a .204 for foxing and was initally looking at it in a Sako 85, not available and then tried to get it in the Winchester Model 70 Coyote Light - again, not available, apparently browning never made a 204 for the UK market. Anyone know of any rifle similar to the winchester/sako available in 204? I have looked at the Remington 700 Varmint SF, but not sure if im keen on it. I know aesthetics are not important and wont affect performance, but they are to me in any gun I buy. I really liked the look of the Winchester! Failing that I may just go for the winchester in 22-250. All opinions and comments welcome. Quote Link to post

It will do all that a 204 will do and at agreater distance away when the wind stops your 204. Easer to reload if you are in to it easer to find new or used better new if you can. Only down side very loud unless you put a moderator on it if you do much better and nicer to shoot all round good gun. If you do your bit you will not get a fox move from the spot. With the 204 if you strike bone they have a habbit off exploding on the surface and you will not find him dont get me wrong 204 shoots flat and is not a bad round , but side by side I know I would grab my 250 every time. If you are having trouble finding your gun why not have a think about buying used and have a custom barral fitted you will end up with a good gun that way at not daft money. Quote Link to post

DERBOY 18
HI MATE i have the 204 rem in the vsf , had it about 3years and is a good bit of kit , as far as i can remember i have only lost about 3 charli,s (i have missed a few )dew to only just nicking them . like leeroy said they do blow up quick on bone , but any were else they are dead .the good thing is they very rare exit the animal , witch i think is good if you shoot were ther is a few sheep about,(SAFTY IS PARAMOUNT). THE GOOD THINGS ARE .its cheap lo load , very little recoil ,and quiet with mod on . BAD THINGS , the spring loading mag fecking useless , never have one of these againg. thats only bad thing with the rem ., if i was going to buy another one it def be the sako 85 , so why not but an order in for one and wait you be much happy,r when you get it, i use the honady 40 gr with 25.4gr of reloader 10X , it does 3,700ft on crony. (THATS MY GUN SO DONT TAKE THIS FOR ANY OTHER )good luck with your choice . DERBOY Quote Link to post
orangeeric 2
Hi, Howa, Ruger and Savage all do 204's (assuming you're right handed). Like you, I think the aesthetics are important. The Ruger is a nice traditional looking thing, as is the Savage. Howa have a very interesting take on having a variety of stocks and barrels to 'custom build' - looks really nice in some configurations and seems to have a reliable reputation. Unfortunately, I'm a Southpaw and have ended up going 243 for the moment for choice/availability/range of use. HTH Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
i'm sure if you look about you can get an 85 in .204 although the ruger M77 is more accurate, but is floor plate instead of mag, i'm speaking from experience as my mate change to a sako from the ruger, for teh mag feed, but had nothing but issues with it, he's now shooting a howa in a B&C stock, but he says and i've seen the ruger to bee the most accurate and least fussy to reload for. orangeeric 2
Sako do list the 85 both in 'Hunter' and 'Varmint' in 204 according to their 2010 catalogue. Also you can add CZ 527 to the list of options...... Quote Link to post

martin 332
I had a Ruger and it was a fantastic bit of kit,and a devastating round.......... This fox was shot just under the chin if you look carefully.... And finally a rabbit almost 200yds and head 18" from body..... Edited November 24, 2010 by martin Quote Link to post
ryanwylie 0
I've made my order, Remington 700 Varmint SF. The 204 has proven to be a difficult caliber to find in a nice rifle. Think i've made the right choice, thanks for all your help guys! Quote Link to post
DERBOY 18
u can allways get a mag fitted if you dont like the floor plate; cost about £250 depending were you go . good luck Quote Link to post

martin 332
22" barrel with a reflex T8 mod that is also used on my .243cal.I sold it as it was a little heavy to be carrying around for the 5+ miles that we do on a nights lamping, and I also wanted to get another .243 and a 7mm 08 so something had to go.......Martin p.s. the only thing that I would of changed was the stock,as the laminates are extra heavy.
