How often do you take her out? It might be shes not getting the work she needs.

Hi all this is my first topic and hope you can help me out as i am a new member on the site.

I have a 19 month old lurcher which is very keen on the lamp if anything is over keen, she will work all night no problem. The problem is has soon as i get her into the motor she goes from level 1 up to level 10 and whines like mad all the way to our destination and then pulls my arm out has soon as she gets out of the motor, all she has on her mind is RABBITS, she is colie x whippet x bull x grey. I can put up with the whining its the pulling thats the problem espeicaly when she sees the rabbit when you try to get closer before i lose her off.

I have thought off getting a harness what are your thoughts.

its all about association, she associates that chain of events with her working , had an old dog years ago ,who could tell if it was the right night for lamping by the sound of the wind in the trees and would whine accordingly,,

might be a bit late for her but i like to get young lurchers out in fields just walking not hunting, that way fields become a relaxing place for a young dog before he does anything, so by the time he enters, he chilled in his envoirment,

you need to break the chain of events often enough, so that she dont know whats coming next,,take her in the car other places and just go home again,,take her out into fields for a walk with no hunting, there are a number of ways to break that pulling also, what ever way you do it try to make sure it ends up as her decision to stop pulling , she only pulling because your following, once she starts pulling , walk the other way, and if she starts in that direction , turn round and go the other way,,

i would work on calming her down, the behavours are expressions of an excited mind set,,,best of luck,

is there another dog out with you ,my bitch will walk steady all night if she,s out by herself but if there,s another dog out with her she tends to pull a bit and can be a pain in the arse .if there,s another dog try taking her by herself for a few times and you,ll see the difference

i was a little harsh with my comments earlier, i do apologise to every one for my advice of foolishness, as i know that these people who have commented have never hit any of there dogs during there working life, dont get me wrong i do not agree with beating dogs , but a tap on the nose i thought was ok - how wrong was i. dont forget to work him on his own as competition for prey will make him pull harder, action as advised by other members will apply here, but watch the dogs neck when you jerk the lead back as you could hurt the dog and if you make it scared it wont want to come out with you again. bull xs might run any thing what moves but if its scared you got problems. they might look big and fearless but dont be fooled as some have hearts like hamsters and when there scared it will be the other way around , you will be pulling your dog along. lol good luck with your lead training.

by the way if this is by any chance your first dog you might of gone for something a bit easier to handle. good luck with your dog, remember the golden raw dont hit it or pull the lead to hard, have a good season

well said bunnys

i dont agree with whats said about "a good yank with a choker" if you yank too hard you could damage the dogs larix

pull into your heel but not a good yank and a quick pause till settled then move on
