RAMCAM 4
I contacted Guns International today to purchase the Hawke HD 4-12x50 IR but they were completely sold out, so I decided to buy the 3-9x40 IR instead Which were reduced in price from £44 to £32 due to a closing down sale. The scope is for my .22 BSA Goldstar multishot springer. I would like to say thanks Si (Zini) for recommending the Hawke range and also for all the useful advice you have given me. Also I would like to thank Simon (Pianoman) for providing me with the link to Guns International where I managed to get a great deal on my scope. Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Hiya Alan/RAMCAM That's great to hear mate, and you got yourself a real bargain result for your Goldstar! I've bought three lovely top spec Hawke scopes myself last week, including an SR12 6-18X44 AO, for under a hundred quid! Just like some decent weather to go stretch their legs on my TXs and HW80s. I'm sad to be losing a great gunsmith in Karl Slater and his shop though. But there's always Henry Krank within easy reach! Glad to have been of service Alan. Cheers Simon Quote Link to post

pianoman 3,587
Aye, I'll miss Guns International and Karl and everyone over there. I got my first HW80 back in the mid 1980s, as well as my current guns and scopes from him; and he was great for servicing and advice. It's been a huge part of my shooting past that shop and it's people. There's plenty of other shops around my area I can get ammo and scopes and bits and bats, but Karl was an old school gunsmith you really could rely on. He taught me a lot of points to watch for when I set about restoring and tuning my HW80K this year. That rifle was one of Karl's trade-ins and he virtually gave me it! It's a real beauty now! one of those dissapearing places where good old fashioned service still counts. Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
See I'm tempted. Need a new scope for the .243 but can't afford any of the normal suspects. You reckon a Hawke scope might survive the recoil? Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
They should do Matt. They are capable of withstanding the thump and thwack of recoiling FAC spring air rifles mate. If I was after a quality scope for a .243, with not a lot of dosh to play with, I'd have a look at what Nikko Stirling have to offer. Nice stuff they have these days. ATB Simon Quote Link to post

I gave them a call today because I should have recieved my scope through the post I also asked about the price drop, they gave me a call back and told me that my scope was in the posting system and they would also reimburst me the difference. I'm annoyed because I had a lovely old Nikko Stirling Diamond, 3-12x50 AO IR that I bought ages ago for just such an occasion. I'd been using it on my PCP because it seemed a shame to leave it sitting in the box, but managed to drop the PCP, smashing the eyepiece on the tractor pedal! I'm wary about the Hawke scopes, I have two, one on my rimmy and one on my PCP, and they work perfectly on those, but the .243 has a heck of a lot more recoil than even the most bouncy of springers. I've invested in a Nikko Sterling Game King 6-24 x 50, AO with the LRX reticle. £50 off EBay. Think I might need some higher mounts though, as the scope on it at the moment is only a 32mm front end. Who puts a 4x mag, 32mm objective scope on a 300 yard plus rifle? Madness! Quote Link to post
