jasper65 6
Cracking pic's Matt . I like the black silkie! I won six pure white Silkie hatching eggs off ebay last year which I half expected to be scrambled through the post! but thankfully the guy packed them well, I slung them in the Grumbach Incubator and was shocked when all was showing fertile when I candled them, to cut a long story short all pipped at 20 and was out at 21 , I was made up as I want some for sitting for me! out of the six there is 4 Hens which is perfect, the two cocks are free to a good home if anyone wants them.... matt101 115
The two silkies that are shown were both hatched from eggs that i won off ebay, they were advertised as exibition stock and im pleased with the results. unfourtunately not all the ones i hatched survived but hopefully these two will repopulate my avairy. There were quite a few foxes about and ive lost quite a few birds to them, they were only chickens or geese but its still upsetting when a bird gets taken. The foxes dont seem to bother breaking into the avairy's where i keep my more "valuable" birds which is better i suppose. I borrowed a fox trap off someone and killed 3 in 4 weeks. The birds stopped being taken for a while but now ive lost a few again.Me and my dad are planning on constructing our own very soon so that we can get to grips with the problem. The silkie is the best breed of bird for sitting on eggs that ive had ever, thats one of the reasons i keep them , so that they hatch out my pheasant eggs cheers matt
