keeping your feet warm in winter

Recommended Posts

i am just wondering what everyone on here uses to keep their feet warm (we all know about socks and the rest)

last year while out fishing the winter months i was wearing thick socks and waders but stuck on a boat all day or a riverbank my feet always felt like blocks of ice....

so what is the best footwear to keep the feet from freezing up ??

Keep the rest of you warm and your feet should stay warm too. I wear lined trousers and 2 pairs of socks 1 thin and 1 thicker with either neoprene wellies or goretex boots. I find plenty layers on the top half of your body will help as when you get cold the blood is diverted to the major organs hence the cold feet/fingers etc my feet stay pretty warm that way, always worth moving around if on a riverbank just to get the circulation moving to the extremeties.

Plenty food and hot drinks are handy too. :)

Here's a tip i was given from an old fishing buddy. If you've got some spare room in you kit bag, take some old thick Polystrene, enough for your boots to fit on and use that to insulate the floor of the boat or riverbank. It acts like a barrier against the cold floor.

I use the Skeetex type boot too.

I thought the skeetex field boot was Crap, they let water, made my feet sweat, then go cold and then they cracked and let more water and that was only after 1 season. Got Hanwag goretex and nubuck boots now and its the closest Ive come to have continuos warm feet. Thin cotton socks then thick wool ones on top, sorted.

Piss in your welly boots, the warm piss will warm your feet up and your warm feet will keep the piss warm Everyone's a winner! ;)

Sounds daft, but..... wash your feet in cold water, thoroughly dry them, then on with socks, etc.... hey presto....warm feet!

 That works. I was a plasterer up until a few years back, and when you're working outside in the winter the best way to keep your hands warm is to plunge them into a bosh full of cold water until they go numb. Your hands are fine for the rest of the day them.
