fleas on pups

hi to all

just looking for some advise please

i have a litter of cocker pups 4 weeks old tomorrow

they seem to have a few fleas on them

what would you guys recomend to get rid

Change all the bedding: burn or wash. Get some Acclaim 2000 or Indorex spray and spray the entire kennel making sure to get into all the cracks and crevices: follow the instructions on the can: you can get these sprays online or at the vets. These sprays are NOT to be used directly on pups or adult dogs. They stop the flea larvae and eggs developing and each treatment lasts for up to 6 months depending on how bad your problem is.

 

Are they cat or dog fleas? Dog fleas are brown and twice the size of cat and rabbit fleas which are tiny and black. Personally I don't like spraying tiny pups: I'd comb them all through with a flea comb to remove the fleas: then you can have fun squashing them between your thumbnails LOL If you get rid of the problem in the kennel you won't see any more fleas on the pups, though you'll need to treat all other dogs as well including the pups' dam.

Boil wash or remove all bedding and use diatomaceous earth on the pups and bitch, it's totally non tox and very effective. An insecticide treatment should be done to the kennel too though. The DE will be suitable for that too.

Just becarefull of the dust from DE though around pups if you use it,

as it can get in to the lungs and could cause damage,

if you use it - its best to dust them outside.

Spray frontline, put on your hands first then wiped over the pups will kill them dead. ( the fleas not the pups!!) Obviously treat the bedding/area and other pets too.

I use diatomaceous earth in the poultry house and one adult dogs, but I wouldn't like to use it on tiny pups because of the risk of silicosis,and little pups are always burrowing into eachother and are more likely to breathe it in than adult dogs: just my opinion.
