I think they must've blocked me..... I really didn't say anything nasty, it's a bloody shame when tossers like that start what is ment to be a debate and as soon as anyone disagrees with their point o

i think you are missing the point......the point being that the actual basis of the complaint is that the advert (in which no animal actually suffered, it was a mock up of snow etc) might lead people to believe that its perfectly acceptable to keep a dog in a tiny kennel, where it cant even stand up, turn around, or get away from the winter weather/elements, with a bed actually in the snow and therefore getting cold and wet, is a suitable place for a dog to live. And i agree fully that no dog should have to live in the type of kennel that this advert depicts. There are "kennels" and there are "KENNELS", AND THE ONE DEPICTED MOST CERTAINLY IS NOT SUITABLE. Its nothing to do with people saying dogs shouldnt be kept in a kennel per se....

Its an ADVERT FFS!!! I don't jump out the seventh storey window and expect a rollercoaster to take me to work like the Barcleycard advert or expect Tony the tiger to pack my snap whilst I finish my frosties. Its not suggested husbandry for dogs, its a f*****g advert, jesus christ..............

Actualy no - no ones missing the point!

We all understand the point they are trying to make, but when they throw abuse

at people, and call half of the genral public thick,

because they might take this ad litraly

then no we dont agree with them.

But the organisers of this John Lewis hate campaign mustn’t allow their feelings, the hyperbole they’re using to express those feelings and the publicity their campaign has gained to make people who care about animals appear “proper SuBo mentalâ€.

Which, ultimately, could damage the good work done by animal welfare groups and could even make the role of our dearly beloved ASA appear farcical! Heaven forfend.

i watched the ad when it first appeared and have to say it DID make me feel uncomfortable.the ad is all about CARING,so i think as a means of conveying care it falls short of the target.better to have shown the dog being brought into the house.as Farlap says, theres kennels and kennels  this particular kennel was completely unsuitable for the needs of the dog

Saying they should've brought the dog into the house implies that leaving it in kennels is uncaring? And it's not - so I'm not sure where you're going with that. That wasn't a kennel it was a dog house .... they could've made more of an effort to make it look appropriate and less whimsical but it's ONLY AN AD :wallbash:

While that advert is horrifying, it's f**k all compared to some of the animal cruelty on TV...

Look here, they make this poor b*****d sleep on the roof of his unsuitable kennel:

Yeah oh well if people get their panties in a bunch over a stupid advert the company is paying plenty for their choice of depictions. I can see some poor advertising guy not getting his christmas bonus this year. Sorry kids we can't get presents daddy lost his job because he pretended to put a dog in the rain in a small kennel.

no i didnt say that its uncaring to have a dog in kennels.what i said was that the advert is about caring.to show a dog in an outside dog house with no door and the wind blowing the snow in is hardly what id call a good way to depict caring.would anyone here keep a dog like that?it would be dead by morning,so not a good advert to depict caring

If the RSPCA were called to check out the house depicted in the advert and found a large healthy hound, with a secure garden to roam in, a kennel that was big enough for the dog to stand, turn round and lay down flat in. Also the dog is not tied to the kennel and there are people in the house to let him in if he wanted in. They would not be interested.

The majority of complaints are because the dog is shown in a kennel and some people think it's OK to hurl abuse at people that keep dogs in kennels.

If you want to nit-pick you could say the kennel had fairy lights on it and so must have power, it's maybe even got a heater in it.

John Lewis picked that dog because they wanted a dog that looked like it would be happy sitting outdoors in a kennel. No wonder so few rescue charities wanted to back the complainers, they are insulting all owners of outdoor dogs :wallbash:

The Deerhound Rannoch is out in fake snow in the middle of july.

But what these people think - is its going to encourage people now to kick their dogs out

in to a kennel, that is open fronted.

If you want to read more of the drivel - and your on facebook.

hear ya go.

Oh and its not been removed at all, it was always intended to be cut down, when the full ad

had run its course - the full ad is still being shown.

I've been having a little fun on that FB site but the tossers keep on deleting my posts and replys.

I'm not being abusive or nasty, just trying to put forward another side. So much for open debate...

I have to agree - the kennel the dog is seen to be sleeping in is totally unsuitable, and hanging up a christmas stocking for the mutt is not "caring" just daft. My collies live outside, but not in a kennel like that...

Ok, it's only an advert but do not under-estimate the power of advertising and how thick some people can be... How many people bought Peugeot 405s based on the advert implying that they set the world on fire and would "take your breath away"? Certainly left them breathless when they got the bill for fixing the leaking sunroofs and the valve stem seals... :tongue2:

I joined the fb group because I hate adverts like that anyway. Perfect bloody John Lewis Christmas :censored: Same old cr*p... I think I'll start a campaign to ban the M&S ones too... dreadful syrupy women babbling on about some vomit-inducing delicacy that is organic, ethical, hand knitted, freshly cooked over blazing logs (from sustainable sources, of course) and drizzled with a marinade of inedible spices and freshly squeezed honey from bees that have only fed on royal lavender bushes...
