Keeps 403
Cow hocked is where the back legs turn outwards. If you look at the dog from the back if the dog is cow hocked its legs will curve outwards. Quote Link to post
ReggieCuz 18
from my understanding of it, it's when you look at your dog's back legs as it's walking and see that they come together at the knee. Quote Link to post
dytkos 17,784
Means the same, don't want it in a dog. Look at a cow from the back, do you want your dogs legs to look like that? No way! Cheers, D. Quote Link to post

jeffers 3
How old is your pup mate. Some young dogs do look cow hocked but straighten out as they get older. I wouldn't worry about it to much. Only matters if your going to show your dog anyway. ATB Jeffers Quote Link to post

ReggieCuz 18
Yeah, it's a showdog thing more than anything else. Of course you don't want a dog with exagerated knock knees or pigeon toes or front legs that bow out like Arnie Scharzeneger cos that'd f**k with it's performance. But a slight knock knee or pigeon toed back legs doesn't matter. An old Bully/Labrador I had had knock knees and she worked for 10 years. She did suffer from arthritis though, I spent a fortune on anti inflammatories for her. But that was genetic, not cos of her knees. Quote Link to post
redcharge 378
Seen a couple of cow hocked dogs run with no problems at all, who gives a feck what they look like? its what they do in the field that counts. Quote Link to post
Skinny 29
in my opinion a lurcher being cow hocked means his back hocks are touching when walks or runs i consider this a serious fault in a lurcher and will have a detrimental effect on the dogs pace and turning will be affffected. Risk of injury will also increase. As mentioned before it can be seen in pup's and it will grow out of it i see it often in dog's poorly fed and reared in cramped damp condition's. I would never buy a lurcher with this condition. Quote Link to post
