Hi All...

Quiet day at work today so finished early to go ferreting. :D

Called up my mate who was eager to come with me and we soon ended up im my mums horse field.

The field is about 6 or 7 acres and has a row of trees running through the middle of it, about 10-15ft wide.

Its easy going as its not to dense cover.

I took a couple of this years kits out who must be around 6-7 months now. This was there first trip out.

The warren was soon netted, only a 9 holer as i wanted to try them out on a small one first.

After collaring up the ferts, they soon entered the warren.

We had one bolt, and netted a treat, he was soon dispatched and the net re-set. At this point i thought it was going to be a good trip

I couldnt have been more wrong. We had no more bolt after that and the light soon began to fade.

After packing up and getting home, i mentioned the trip to my mum.

I couldnt beleve a field that has so many rabbits in didn't produce.

I mean seriously, this field was full in the summer, you could literaly walk withing 15ft of a rabbit with an air rifle.

But my mum then said that about 4 weeks ago, the rabbits dissapeared and she hardly see's any now.

Why would this be? as there seems to be no obviouse sign of myxi around?

Anyway, i suppose it wasnt a total waist of time, as it gave to young'uns a bit of experience, and all 8 of them are now fighting over the rabbit meat :)

All the best,

Andy.

Good write up fella.......whats the surrounding area like is there much in the way of food for them?I go to places that have loads of rabbits on but when they run they go a fair distance to cover and warrens on ground I'm not allowed on.They could be doing the same on your ground its that saying the grass is always greener, but like Ideation said theres a lot of RHD all over the country this season

The same on the local ground up this way, moving in the summer and then by the time season starts they,ve disappeared.

A combination of things I think, predators particularly foxes, ferreters, lampers and feckin mixy, :wallbash:

Your ferrets are still young as well and just learning, keep at it though ,awe the best,
