stevethefish 80
Well the shooting season is into full swing and there are a few days we cant go ferreting now, but we managed to get a few hours in this morning. Stevo, Steve and Jamie came down from Sheffield for another bash, not far for me to travel though, we did the hedgerow across the road on Nocton estate and Howards farm. I watch the rabbits out of the bedroom window and walk the dogs up there every day so know there's plenty up there. We did this bit last year and had some excellent bags but they soon re-populate, it also keeps the mixy away thinning them out. All the way up it was heavy going, crawling on our bellies under thick cover and brambles, (we wouldn't have it any other way) honest! It was tough but it needed doing, both the keepers were finding it hard to shoot them as they spook very easily back to the cover and there's the safety aspect also with our houses just a spit away. We set off well, Stevo's collie marking the holes, what a worker, she never lies, and the first stretch we managed 19 with just a couple of sneaky bolt holes missed for about 3 rabbits. As we crossed to the other side of the road onto the other farm the cover got a little bit easier, but not easy by any means. A quick flask and sarnie stop, just as my missus walked past with my 2 patts, she must think we toss it off, my dogs were miffed to see me at it without them but the road is an issue with 2 headstong patterdales. Back onto the other farm and a few more bunnies before the lads had to high tail it off home to miss the traffic, a shame really as we still had a few hours of light left. What an excellent day, the weather was kind, bit foggy though, but its just great to be out there doing what you love. Stevo gutted the rabbits and we had a count up, only 35 but worth the effort and a good deed for the keepers. I suppose we are lucky around here, plenty of bunnies to go at and I have lots of excellent rabbiting land just ripe at the moment, I just hope this year is as productive as last year. stevethefish 80
How do people go on when they have no outdoor interests, sitting in front of the telly on an xbox and going brain dead. I cant understand the kids of today, when I was a kid I just wanted to get outdoors, even if it was just walking the dogs in the woods. What will they be like when they get to my age HHHHmmmm about 50 ish.......... I feel for those guys who cant get out because of disabilities when they have always been active outdoors, hope it never happens to me. 1 Quote Link to post
