Guest bootneck
My mate has asked me wether it would b ok to breed a brother and sister from the same litter or would this cause any problems with the pups?? Happy Hunting all depends on the line i suppose,,the amount of genetic flaws the line carries etc,,,i have a friend who has inbred 7 generations of brother/ sister consecutively and he has culled hard in the process,,reckons the first and third generations lost size and ability but the fourth generation onwards are the best dogs he has ever owned lol,,,i personally wouldn't advocate this type of breeding practice,,nothing was sold out of the first 5 generations just incase he was producing shit........and he ain't Quote Link to post
roybo 2,873
i've read somewhere breeding siblings has no advantage ,i.e your not going to improve what you already got as they're genetically simular ,be much better breeding to a uncle/aunt or one of the parents or simular, can't see there being any problems as long as they are'nt inbred to start with though, i'd just ask yourself what you are going to gain by doing it Quote Link to post
doxhope 2
One of the best matings that can yield consistantly good results, is half brother half sister..seen some great dog, cage birds, pigeons from this mating. But, I had a pure bred deerhound dog that jumped a 6Ft 6in batton fence to get to his sister in season, 3 of the pups were exported to the USA, 2 to Gary Hosker, one has become and American champion, and another from the same litter, owned by another person, needs only a few more points to do the same Line breeding isnt just the putting together 2 related dogs...Not that easy Im afraid, loads of other things are required, including the best possible stock  Quote Link to post
Guest JDF
i've done it at times in the past with terriers but never with a running dog. Quote Link to post
