lowlowshotta 1
I wouldn't touch it mate, dog would be better left alone, too many faults, doesn't want to retrieve and it sounds like its of nervy disposition, so many collie types are A few good dogs come up for sale on here, or ask about what you after mate Quote Link to post
KittleRox 2,147
my bitch is more collie than greyhound, she is bang on does everything and takes it in her stride, she is much better than my other lurcher and she aint no bag of shite (greyhoundX beardy/border,/greyhound). Take the trial the dog will either suit you or it wont. my collie/greyhound the dog ive been offered looks just like that but a tad shorter its already running the lamp but wont retrieve also is broken to ferrets ive got a 2 week trial to have on him but theres a big but it scares very easy guns fireworks and its gone just thought i would ask about the x before i asked about its problems still advice needed its 2/12 is it to old to start retreving also about load bangs could this be sorted or is it to old any advice welcome regards You could probably sort the retrieving out but the nervouseness is a different matter,as it,s your first lurcher I would probably give it a miss, Get yourself a pup mate, plenty to choose from, Quote Link to post
Mrs A.R.D 53
yea i wouldnt bother if it has probs with noises. iv had mine since she was 6 weeks old. But saying that my other lurcher was 4 years old when i got her and had noise phobia's my other dog seems to have given her bags more confidance and she is steady as owt now. its your decision but why take on a problem? My collie/greyhound has nerves of steel and she's tough as old boots lol my greyhound/collie can be a bloody mardarse at times! Edited November 20, 2010 by Mrs A.R.D Quote Link to post
Neal 1,869
I fully accept that a dog bred this way will have less speed to muster up than a "conventional" lurcher but I bet there are a lot of pure collies, retrievers, terriers etc which can catch more rabbits than some lurchers. After all, it's not the speed but what they do when they get there. I have an eleven year old pure kelpie who was hit by a van at eleven months old, as a result, he has a completely knackered pelvis and in addition is calcifying up between his vertebrae; but he still catches rats, rabbits and squirrels...because he really wants to. It was no big deal, just didnt use a gun when the collies were about. This cross should have brains, stamina and good feet. If I wanted a collie bred lurcher this is the type I would go for.
