a couple of year back me terrier got a grass seed down inside the ear, it caused the ear to become enflamed, sore and hot to the touch, the dog never stopped scratching at it, cost £90 at the vet for anti-inflamitaries and some anti-biotics.

sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and pay the vet.

If a grass seed that is arrow shaped gets in the ear it can't come back out. With each wiggle of the ear the seed goes deeper and deeper until it gets to the drum and can cause the dog to get an infection, lose it's hearing in the ear or even die. It's a big deal in the States. It would be a good idea to have the vet look at it so you at least know what is the cause then figure it out from there. Good luck.
