jarv5116 57
Just hang them up in shed or garage out the way and leave them to dry then tie em on dummy.. wouldnt bother mucking bout with salts and aw that crap. To much hassle if only going put them round dummy for dog to retrieve with. cheers j Quote Link to post
Guest crobinc840
The alum method is to produce a soft stretchy skin that's more for decoration. I just put salt on the skin and sew it around a ball on a rope toy and stick it in the airing cupboard. I took some pictures of it I'll post something on it later. Quote Link to post

This happened to me before, even though I scraped it clean. I think some sort of curing would be a better idea & would mean the skin could be used for longer. Cheers Nessie Quote Link to post

Cheers Nessie a suppose every one has there own way of doing things , but if its scaped clean and salted well then the fly's should leave it well alone and have no maggot issues. Quote Link to post
DogMagic 461
The last one i used for a dog training dummy started off as a whole rabbit i gave to the ferrets. Once they had finished, there was just the skin and feet left. I cut off the feet and put it in the airing cupboard till it was dry. Yeah it curled up a bit and it did go hard but not so hard i couldnt bend it. I superglued it to a ball and its good as new! Quote Link to post
John-B 4
my ferrets have a damn fine way of curing the skins, I don't know how they do it but they strip all the meat from the rabbit and leave the spine and about a 6" square of perfectly tanned hide lol, funnily enough they drag the backbone to the poop corner and the hide goes inside the nest box (maybe they are trying to tell me something lol) Quote Link to post
hargreavesheber 93
Thanks for the replies folks, think i'll just salt it for a while, scrape and fill it full of straw or wrap it round dummy for the pup to practice on. Sounds like it could take forever to cure a hide properly..... Cheers Quote Link to post
Guest crobinc840
I made a tutorial on how I make the toy, someone thought it was well written so I hope you like it http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/178039-making-puppy-rabbit-trainning-toy/page__p__1800347#entry1800347 Quote Link to post
