lamaha 7
I am a one man band pestcontrol company based in West Sussex, mostly working in the commercial and domestic areas and wondered what rates we are or aren't charging for various services in rural locations. We carry out rodent control, rabbit control, all the usual suspects and moles. I was thinking around £10 per hour with discounts for permissions. What do we think? I can already hear "HOW MUCH!" akton 15
Most Landowners /farmers will be unwilling to pay,as they usually have a queue of people waiting to go on and do it for FREE but if you can do a job for them that others cannot do :ie mole trapping as this can be time consuming and become costly in travelling costs and extra visits. But good luck to you in these hard times Quote Link to post
Matt 160
£10 per hour might sound very attractive as a 'wage', but as a business proposition, it makes no sense at all. Try working out your cost of operating - including all the 'hidden' costs; like training, certification, insurance, trade body membership etc, etc, and divide that by the number of days you expect to work each year (usually around 200) and the number of 'calls' you expect to make each day. Whatever you come up with, bear in mind this forum can be viewed by anyone, and ranks very highly on google. To provide potential customers and competitors with what is known in the business world (I know, before anyone starts that cr*p again) 'commercially sensitive' information is very unwise. I always price work based on what it costs us to operate, combined with what it would cost us to pay someone else to do the work for us (in the event of unplanned sickness etc). Whatever happens; never be afraid to make a profit. People don't go into business as a charity option - I'm in business to make money; and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Quote Link to post

Cheers seems a strange question to ask if your already in buisness. especialy already working in a comersial envioronment, cos theres no way on earth £10 an hour is any where near enough. lamaha 7
Thanks for the feedback guys, and yes it may be a strange question to ask, but i am currently outside of the rural scene and i hear varying info as these three replys show. As previously stated we work within the domestic, urban and commercial sectors and very succesfully, taking work from and having success where other more established firms have failed. Rural work was one of the initial reasons for starting the buisness, but we found these other areas coming to us first. All advice is welcomed, good advice is used. Thanks again Quote Link to post
