ferret food

Fresh, small, whole dead things, mate. Like All the mustalidae eat in the wild.

Look at it this way; Bait a cage trap with that dried shit and see if ye catch a mustalid. Ye won't. Ye'll catch a bloody rat.

Why? Because rats can thrive on shit. Ferrets (mustalids) thrive on fresh, small, whole dead things.

:good:

Meat defo.

I started feeding dry, then as I realised its complete and utter shit, I moved to pet mince, realising that was OK but not perfect now feed them anything really, hearts, chicken, pheasent, rabbit, pigeon and squirrel (if i can get it).

There looking much better on it. They feel more chunky and muscly, and nice coats.

Also they dont drink 5 tons of water every day!

Only downside to meat I think is that they always drag it into there bedding and get it all wet, meening it has to be changed more.

Always whole carcasses, but i do keep some dry for times ive forgot to defrost the meat. I have noticed i dont know what they put in the dry stuff but the furts will leave the meat to get the dry

Ive even got a dry food feeder so they have to move it about to get it out :D

If you don't have the time to go catch small animals, or lack space or even a freezer.

Dry food will see you right, of course, baby chicks, small birds etc etc, is probably the best diet.

Anything meat based, just stay away from bread and milk sobs....

I prefer the dry food, as someone said it keeps the number of flies down during summer time, plus its easily stored. The ferrets eat it just as keen as small birds and their condition is great.

For my situation i cant fault the dried food, i also give them some liver or an egg every now and then.

i use dry only when its really hot the amount of water they have to drink with it cant be good ,i just get the kids to road kill spot for me im always pulling over for the odd pancaked rabbit or bird ,theres not allways good rabbiting spots where i live because of traveling round the place with the army, cut up headgehog is allways a treat for them

Thought that myself, earlier, Frank! Just didn't have time to say so :icon_eek:

Millet; Attack it with a rigid plastic scraper, mate. Go for those ice burgs round the edges first and ye'll soon see long lost alluminium. Get into the job and ye'll feel quite good afterwards - though rubber gauntletts will help ye hands feel a lot better! Bettcha you'll end up dragging a bucket full of snow out of there, mate. Saves on power and will make the freezer last longer :good:

Hot weather? I always fed mine last thing at night - carcasses - in the summer months. Never have seen a fly flying at night ;)

For the record: No species of " Small Bird " may be legally taken in UK these days. House Sparrows and Starlings are fully protected under law. Do behave!
