I do love doing the deep old warrens though, regardless of the return, especially when you have confidence in your ferrets and your in no rush with regards to time or numbers. The other day a friend and i netted up 40+ holes, not huge, but big enough, with a good depth. There was only one rabbit (it transpired) and we entered 3 jills. Round and round they went but they finally get her out. I love hearing the run around beneath you and imagining your ferrets really grafting and hunting, the fact thats its tough and the ferrets have to work for it makes it even sweeter when the rabbit pops out.

It also depends on the experiance and age of the ferrets, younger inexperianced ferrets will rarely go that deep and so will miss a lot. The old hands will scrape that warren clean!

I was going to say that but from the original post he says they were going over 16ft deep so assumed the ferrets were working deep :)

yeah the ferret ( my jill ) is doing the job she goes down 4 a good 8- 13 min down 1 hole out of another net there r 6 sets there not linked all have fresh scraping on the earth & fresh dropings so the signs r there but no bolts, i put the locator on and in 30 seconds its gone straight past 16ft ,im going to just keep trying them all till i get a result , i hope ....

i worked a deep warren the other day,one rabbit bolted the other stuck,it was in a sandbank and i was using my 3yr old hob,i couldnt even get a signal at 15ft, to cut a long story short the result was a 4hour lay up,luckily i got the ferret back, just be wary when working in sand as you can get cave ins and long lay ups,all the best for the coming season.
