so were did saluki`s get this stamina from? what were they originally bread from?

did god just decide to make a saluki or did they originally come from say a grayhound and something else and they just kept selective breeding them till they got the saluki?

im not trying to be a dick lol im am actually wanting to know.

Natural selection and selective breeding, mate ! There's some wide open spaces out there in the Middle East, nothing for as far as the eye can see. A dog needs speed to get up on it's quarry and stamina to keep up with it. I'd imagine the wild dogs that were the forebears to the Saluki had survival of the fittest and when the Beduins breed them, looks don't come into it, best to the best and ruthless culling. I asked Sheik Hamed if he prefered Feathered or Smooth; he looked at me and said coat and colour mean nothing..it's how they perform that decides if they are good enough to breed

Cheers.

Which Sheikh Hamad did you speak with????? :hmm:

Hamed Ghenaim ! I lived in the Middle East for over 26 years ! I owned and worked Beduin bred Saluki's when I was out there. Hamed is probably the greatest supporter of pure Salukis in the world ! Which Sheik Hamed are you on about ?

Cheers.

Wallah funny! YOU said Sheikh Hamamd in your post, I assumed you meant Ghanem and I was gonna correct you by letting you know that he is not Sheikh, he doesn't belong to the royal family.

Inshallah I will reach your 26! My parents have been in the Gulf for 28 years now. I'm 30 and I've been in the Gulf for nearly 15 years, back and forth between here and the UK. We first moved to Bahrain in 1983, funny to meet another Gulf expat on here. I finally moved back 18 months ago. Nzain ya Gordie, tkulum Arabi?

Na'am, ana callum Arabi ! By the way, you don't need to be a member of a royal family to be called "Sheik" , it's a term of respect for older men or heads of families. Good luck out there, it can be a grand life !!

Cheers.

Big Zook you are thee biggest w@nker on here at the mo and that's saying something coz I'm here :feck: just because a dog won't sit and stay doesn't make it a liability ffs these dogs were bred to be able to think for themselves in huge open areas where it may be a while before the handler catches up to it and it's catch/kill

good stamina in the dogs but not my cup of tea thanks rather see a good run on a fox anyday of the week.

someone said bout the sand sapping the energy out the dogs big deal in this country you run your dogs on hares on wet ground thats been drilled your feet sink into the mud your boots feel 10lb heavier imagine what the dogs feel like so surely some of the fen dogs could piss it running on the sand over there its just the heat.

Mshallah, tkulum Arabi ok  Ana fukr sita ushreen sana bil Khaleej, larzum houa kulum Arabi shwei, t'marm! Cheers mate! Yeah its the good life out here, after doing 9 very long years in the UK its nice to be back home. Its funny you say that, because growing up in Qatar thats what I always thought. I was there for 8 years and left in 2000 but since being here the term has only been used when referring to a member of the royal family ie used for his highness or Sheikha for the females. I was thinking, maybe its more of a bedou term, as I hung out with a lot of them in Doha, they couldn't speak any English so it helped my arabic a lot. Here has always been a bit further along, it was only recently that the bedouins were forced to get passports back in Qatar. Maybe the more western influenced generations dont use the term in the same way any more. Just a thought.

Anyways, cheers!
