owen vining 5
Hi All We got to Marks early afternoon on saturday and while he was still at work I went and zero'd my Ultra and did bit of plinkin. When he got back from work I put me and my grandads YUKON NVRS-F Tactical NV on my Ultra and Mark put his NV on his hw 100kt and we zero'd the guns Marks wasn't that far off but mine was wayout. After we had tea about 7pm we headed out onto the farm, to do a bit of ratting but first of all we had to get a shower and a full change of clothes in the changing area(the clothes and boots were far too big for me but 4 pairs of socks made the boots ok) We loaded up with gas and pellets and went onto the unit and we went into about 4 different sheds together as I didnt want to go in by myself cos I didnt know the layout in the dark (I wil prob go in a shed by myself next time. maybe)we would get twice as many if we were seperated, but we didnt see many as it was too early and we only got about 5, so we went for a tea break for about 30mins and watched some of Si's youtube videos on Marks office computer. We then headed out again there was alot more this time but were not sure how many we got, but we shot roughly 20 but we could only find 11. Some managed to get back to their holes. The first time I went ratting with Mark here at Newbottle it was heaving but now with Si, DavyT63, Mark and of course me there was alot less. It was the first time I have used the NV for vermin and the scope was very good, Mark was very surprised how bright the IR was on my NV. We called it a night at about 12.45. Mark put his Hawke scope on his hw 100kt and told me to zero it in the morning while he was at work because we were going to his local airgun club if he finished early enough. I got up about 7am to do a bit of rabbiting I went into Marks field and I saw a couple of rabbits I got one in my crosshairs but I think he saw me and he ran off, I then went a bit further down the field and I saw about 4 in the corner but they were too far away(about 50metres) but something spooked them and they ran towards me and when they got to be about 20metres from me I took aim at the closest and I took a steady shot aimed just behind the eye pulled the trigger and that was that he flopped over. I had my grandad with me he was my carrier and I was using his Air Arms S410 classic because I stll had the NV on my Ultra. I then zero'd Marks hw 100 kt for him it was just a bit down so I put it up about 4 clicks and I also zero'd my ultra. Mark finished early enough so we went to his local airgun club and there was a little competition on for Rememberence Day. Mark left his 2 mags and H & N pellets at home so he had to use his springer hw 97 and I used my ultra Mark did OK but its the first time I had done this. and I was learning what to do as we went along. Overall a very good weekend shooting. Thanks Mark Here are a few photo's of the weekend. Owen Edited November 16, 2010 by owen vining 4 Quote Link to post
zini 1,939
Brilliant write up Owen buddy. Excellent shooting too. The rifle looks really good pal. Did you take the bunny at 20 metres with a standing shot? If so excellent going pal especially with someone elses rifle. I see I need to get practicing for when I see you and uncle Mark next month or I am going to make myself look a wolly next to you with that standard of shooting. How did the silencer do Owen? Have you opened it and seen the little mod I did inside? Works a treat don't it? Si Quote Link to post

zini 1,939
Hi Si, No I was lying down. Hi Owen, Even so mate a 20 metre (21.8 yard) prone shot is a good shot if the pellet is placed in the same place (kill zone) as yours was . Well done buddy . Yep shooting next month together should be really good pal. We are coming over to Marks on Sunday the 19th Dec and will be there probably just after mid day . Hopefully your school will be finished by then buddy for Christmas, and we can lamp a few bunnies together in Uncle Mark’s fields before serving the rats their Christmas dinner, (8 and 16 grains of lead) . I’m going to film you and Uncle Mark pal and get you both on the new DVD along with Davy and Shay so far and Tony when I shoot with him, plus anyone else that sends me some good footage . I think I’m going to have to change the name of the DVD too, to The Vermin Sniper and Friends, it’s only fair . If you can’t make it then buddy you will have to speak to Uncle Mark and let me know when you will be able to get to his farm and he is free again so I can come down again and shoot with you and Mark before I go back to Germany . I’m only in Nottingham so it’s not too far to travel pal . Anyway pal you keep up the good work . ATB Si Edited November 16, 2010 by zini Quote Link to post
