dai dogs 1,404 Posted November 15, 2010 Report Share Posted November 15, 2010 what this stone is? iv walked past this stone hundreds of times aways thought it was some sort of milestone. its about 3ft 6in tall and you can see its carved out of a large rock. carved in the centre is a arrow pointing up to a line. johnnie deep dig 36 Posted November 15, 2010 Report Share Posted November 15, 2010 Hi Dai It's used for checking sea levels and ground levels for building works etc. They all relate back to the mean sea level, The Zero Ordinance Datum bench mark which is on the harbour wall in Newlyn Cornwall, Next time you are walking the dog have a look you will find them all over the place usually on old Church walls and old buildings and mile stones etc. We have GPS nowadays mate All the best JDD Quote Link to post Share on other sites
