what this stone is?

iv walked past this stone hundreds of times aways thought it was some sort of milestone.

its about 3ft 6in tall and you can see its carved out of a large rock. carved in the centre is a arrow pointing up to a line.

Hi Dai

 

It's used for checking sea levels and ground levels for building works etc.

 

They all relate back to the mean sea level,

 

The Zero Ordinance Datum bench mark which is on the harbour wall in Newlyn Cornwall, Next time you are walking the dog have a look you will find them all over the place usually on old Church walls and old buildings and mile stones etc.

 

We have GPS nowadays mate
