back in the saddle

hi lads, well i finally got a chance to get out this morning and as the ol' elbows been much better since i got a decent strap for it i thought i'd take das kraut out with me, since i'm still not shooting the '95 as well as i'd like at further ranges, and you know that if i'd taken that out then all quarry would've telepathically known that and stayed at least 40+m away

so i went up the farm(as featured on spring rifle vermin control-available NOW!!) and took a mooch around, i was mainly up there for squirrell as i'm partial to shredded squizzer in plum sauce wraps, and now the leaves have almost fallen theres half a chance of following the little gets into the tree and getting a shot off...

so i was heading up to one of the rides seperating the fields and on the way a mixyed bunny stuck his head out of the hedge about 10 yds from me, but behind a fence thats a combination of fox fence with chicken wire over it, just to make things interesting. i couldnt take the head shot as i'd normally do as the fence was in the way but a strategically placed split in the wire allowed me a neck shot of about 7m(long distance shooting, eh... :icon_redface: ) he went down sweet as, and went in the game bag for the dog's dinner.

carrying on down the ride i spotted another bunny about 30m away and took an easy supported stander off a gatepost and put the 2nd un in the bag, a nice healthy looking little fella that i've rechristened 'pate'

no squirrels tho, so i decided to have a little wander round the plantation on the other side of the farm(one day i'll get round to taking some photos of the land itself for your good selves) where theres usually at least a couple to be found as they live in greater numbers in the woods that back onto the plantation(but belong to someone else, damn them!!)i must've spent about 20 minutes quietly wandering from tree to tree and finally saw a couple of the little feckers running up a trunk about 25m in front of me. the gun was in my shoulder and i made the ol' rabbit squeal to stop one in his tracks. he was permenantly stopped by an accupell in the head and fell to the ground immediately, while i tried to find his mate. no joy there tho, so i picked him up from where he'd landed and bunged him in the bag as well

i spent another happy hour wandering aimlessly about but couldn't find owt else so got myself home for a cuppa. not too bad tho, considering its the first time out proper in almost a month

last kill i got was by lucky chance when i went out to do a spot of target practice and this fella walked across my path at about 25m away, and, as the rifle was already in my shoulder it seemed a shame to waste a pellet on paper

he then came to dinner a couple of days later

the reason i put that photo on tho, is if you look at the ramekin dish in front of him youll notice his gizzard and where he'd been gorging himself on blackberries he'd actually filled his gizzard with the pips, like kidney stones but absolutely stuffed with em. very strange...

hope you enjoy the piccies and suchlike, all the best, wurz

Great write up Darth John buddy,

Nice to see Das Kraut still knocking them over as easy as ever.

Didn't I tell you that you would love the 100KT?

Keep up the good work buddy.

Excellent read Wurz :notworthy:

7 Meter head shot with a scope is bloody good shooting buddy  open sights, a little different but through a scope! Well done my good man.

That was a very nice shot on the Tree Rat as well  One day I'll get to taste Shredded Squizzer in Plum Sauce in a Tortilla Wrap (insert drooling icon here) and Cajun Squizzer Sluuuurrrrrp :D

Great to hear that strapping your arm up has helped with your enjoyment and bagged a good meal or two :victory:

Take care

cheers lads, glad you enjoyed it

@ si(zini), yep mate, still the no1 go to gun, and you were right about springers improving your shooting, i felt very smooth and confident today, all good stuff.

@ major, i only hung him up for the photo op, he was in the oven by the following morning mate, but thanks for the tip

@ bill, thanks for the slut mate, and the strap advice!!

@ tony, youre a scholar and a gent mate, but thats our little secret, eh? ;) as to the close range shot, i aimed about 1 1/2" high to compensate for the scopes height, and as its back was to me i knew it'd be a neck or base of skull shot, and if hadnt worked out i couldve reversed the gun and clubbed the poor little feller to death instead...(just kidding!)

all the very best, wurz
