longdog13 36
Well, after a complete wash out on Friday it was all go for a rain free day on Saturday. Myself and Bud were invited back to the farm where in the past couple of weeks we had bags of 44 and 25. So after getting to the property at around 0845 we set straight to work with laying the purse nets, the weekend before the land owner cleared the whole bank of trees and other cover with a JCB so it was pretty easy going. After an hour of net laying we were done, so back to the top of the field to enter our four ferrets, 3 Gills and the Hob. The action was slow at the top of the hill with one or two bolting, but as we got further down the bunnies were bolting very well, at one point we had 5 bolt from the same hole and it was then that you're glad the whole warren was netted, as back netted rabbits are just as sweet . By the time we got to the end of the bank, we'd had two digs, of only 2 and 3ft, and a bag of 27 The time was 11 am so we decided to clear some scrap metal away from an old Pill Box at the top of the field, that sits on the boundary of a turf field and a wheat field. The Landrover made short work of dragging all the metal out of the way, (And enough noise to wake the dead ) But if the landowner wants it and happens to be watching you all day then it needs to be done, we netted all the holes around the structure, and the ones on the ditch next to it for about yrds. The netting took a about half an hour, and as i laid one of the 10z 4ft purse nets over a hole on the fence line a rabbit bolted straight into it like a rocket, no ferrets in yet either!!! So in with only Two Gills and the Hob this time, ( The bloody MK3m Collar packed up!! , has anyone else had this happen?) This warren took an hour to clear with 13 very well fed big healthy rabbits to show for if . Now with the time rolling on we decided to leave the big bank for another day, with all the rabbits paunched it was time to get them all off to the butchers before they close, So, end of the day we had 40 rabbits, a happy land owner, and a happy butcher. The weather stayed dry all day and the ferrets worked their butts off, a great day had by all. I'm having issues with my camera at the moment so i'll have to see if i can get the pictures on for you. Thanks for reading LD13 Edited November 15, 2010 by longdog13 Quote Link to post
