well what a start to my season . went out yesterday with a couple of mates and there fhh , got up in the morning to get stella ready , weighed her she was spot on 2,4 . met up with the lads and let the birds go in the wood , this was 10 o clock yesterday morning. my mates female was on form chasing rabbits about but stella seemed a bit slugish . so were walkin thru the wood boltin rabbits and stella was just sat far away watchin , i got her on my fist after about 10 mins so walked with her a bit then she flys off my fist and lands in a tree . i tried to get her down again but she was having none of it . i was there till it came in dark still she wasnt movin . so when it got dark i got her position and made sure she was settled for the night with the intention of comin back for her at first light , i got home and couldnt settle thinking she may have moved so went back at 10 at night with the lamp to check she was still there. she was , had a shit nights sleep and was back there at half 6 this morning she flew about a bit and i eventually got hold of her at 10 o clock 24 hours after i set off , when i weighed her she was 2 , 6 so well over weight , my scales were well out , but its a lesson learned and it wont happen again

I keep a weight by the scales, goes on before any bird is weighed, even a stone will do if you know it's weight. Glad you got her back mate.

i normaly use a bag of sugar but just didnt think yesterday. it wont happen again mate . cheers mick :wallbash:

It's easy done with electronics mate, mine played up a couple of times, once with damp and once with a piece of gravel stuck in 'em.

Just seen this Mick! what a nightmare mate but I'm glad it had a happy ending mate  . been there a few times in the past with a bird out all night, always got there just before first light hopeing the bird hasn't moved far from its original position.

I used to fly a Redtail a few years back without Telemetry! he was off on one bigtime on one occasion in about his 4th season, by this time which was my fault he self hunted a bit out of trees and could be a bit wayward once up one working the trees to his advantage, on this occasion I stayed with him until virtual dark until settled down to roost, I was up before first light back under the same tree and he had moved on, thankfully later I heard a chink of a bell further into the woods and marked him down, later I finally picked him up off a Pheasant he dropped down on.

It was a funny situation with this bird, you could drop his weight slightly to try and compensate fpor the self hunting and pit more fist work into it but no joy! to be honest I think dropping him made things slightly worse, He was hunted from a brown bird mainly from trees following on from there on I think the seed was sown.
