NEHunter 14
Hi there. The question I have tonight is what's peoples oppinions on getting my pups dew claws removed? I will be working her mainly on grassland or sown fields but she will be walking and playing on stubbles and rough ground. I personally think it's not worth the risk keeping them on. But some people say it's a waste of money taking them off. Keeping my dog pain- free and working seems worth it to me, do you agree? Edited November 12, 2010 by NEHunter Quote Link to post

stainlee 27
It,s very simple to do yourself if it,s young enough ( up to a few days old ) . I don,t know the cost at vets , but shouldn,t be too much . Quote Link to post
stoaty 171
get em done sooner the better my old whippet had his off at about 3 years due to ripping them turning on rough ground it cost a fortune and was terrible compared to how easy they come off a youngster i tend to pick my pups out of litters that have been done now Regards Stoaty Quote Link to post

tb25 4,627
i think with pups it about 30 pound a claw and have been told as a adult it can cost 100 pound a claw Quote Link to post

Water Badger 26
I have had them done on my beddy whip anthing you can do to reduce injury to your dogs is good You can bet they will injure themselve right on when you either have a top invite, Good new ground or when the farmer wants you theire ASAP frustrating situation then you enter the area of running a damaged dog before it has healed and making things worse and causing other problems Heres my boy after his opp Quote Link to post

Keeping my dog pain- free and working seems worth it to me, do you agree? if it cost too much to get dew claws off,,,,,u can buy vet wrap from the vets,,,wrap dew claws well with that before u go out,,,,this will help prevent them getting caught on somthing,,,,,but cause ur dog is a pup,,,in its life time,,,u might spend as much on vet wrap or more ? somtimes its cheaper in the long run to have them off,,,,,but go round 2 or 3 vets,,,get the best price,,,as vets prices vary alot good luck wotever u decide,,,,i aways think breeder,s of pup,s should have them off as they dont really serve any purpose to a running dog,,atb bob 1 Quote Link to post
Water Badger 26
Not all breeders are aware they can cause a problem so they leave them alone for 2 reasons 1 they have not got the confidence to do it 2 they don`t want to pay to have them off because it eats into profit of pupps Quote Link to post
