ryballnben 22
Had the pup and the terrier out tonight just as was gettin dark locally jumpin with rabbits terrier was liftin stuff left right and centre but pup only 17 wks was just doin his usual thing he walks nice an tight to heel.i was desperately gettin the urge to show him summit but dont want to spoil him wouldnt care there was couple easy ones that the terrier caught right out in the middle o nowhere. but i dont want him runnin amock with the old un just yet otherwise i dare say he would have had a go and not really sure what the impact would be if the terrier showed him a trick or two! Would really like to hold him as long as poss for his age upto now his obedience is s*&t hot, not sure if the excitement might spoil him tho i am hoping to start him with ferreting late feb for the last couple outings give him summit to think about maybe and then after that would be next season which would put him at 14mth whats your thoughts on this lads all constructive comments welcome! jf1970 328
why wait until february to take him out with the ferrets?. if he is broken to ferrets get him out with them now, won't do him any harm to have a look. Quote Link to post
ryballnben 22
I know hes only just 4 month but its fecking killin me! and i am thinkin about waiting end of feb to take him ferreting coz i am an ipatient get ! and if he starts well he will be out every op i get dont want to sicken him off or pick up any stupid injuries early on, coz i think he will be a good un been out the game over 15yrs or so just gettin back into it but cant remember any of my previous pups being so willing to learn hes a treat to teach picks up stuff in minutes by far the most obedient pup i have ever owned the last dog i had was the one that finished me all those years ago started him at eight month had the heart of lion was game as fk had a go everything before he was year old but i dont think i gave him enough time to develope a brain consequently while running a deer he ran in to a tree breaking his neck and paralysing hum from from front legs back over he to be put to sleep which broke my heart and i swore i wouldnt own another again, but last couple of years have been thinkin about him and the fun we had which is what kicked me off again, but as you can imagine i am a little aprehensive dont want to hold him to long and dont want to run to sharp there are so many mixed views my father for example has never run a pup on live game till there 16mth plus although he has an electric lure which he uses as part of his regime which gives em bit of idea this is all straight line which doesnt teach em things turn! and a mate of mine has his pups [bANNED TEXT] em everywhere he goes and they know what there preys doing before it knows what its doing so as i am sure youll my dilema as he doesnt seem to have any probs none of his pups and all his dogs are retired at the age of six or so and are genuine members the family hes trying to convince me to get the pup out with ferrets now he insists it would more gud than harm but would appreciate your views on this boys as i am still unwilling to take the risk,, once again thanks for all your constructive comments boys Quote Link to post
Casso 1,261
Go with your gut feeling bud, if you,ve been in the game and know how it works, go with what ya think will be best for your pup, the only thing i would say is , he might be a mannerly little pup now, but after he.s had a taste of the action , it might be harder to rein him in ,the next time your in the field after that,,because his focus may be else where,,best of luck with him,, Quote Link to post
