Out for a slip with the young'un

Recommended Posts

I couldnt miss the wind last night, I rushed home, and got back out again as quick as I could. Just local ground as it was a bit too rough to drive anywhere far.

I took my youngest bitch and it all went well from the start. She run and caught the first 3 in the first field. Then another field and another three. They were all either good hard runs...A few of them squatted right to the last minute, she wont lift them but almost nudges them with her nose to make them run! But it makes it more sporting I suppoose.

We had a fox or two follow us tonight again, and they were either in front or behind most of the time. Rabbit number 7 was one of the funniest I have ever seen. We came to a particularly awkward wire fence with a rabbit sitting right out in the middle of the field, I knew by the time we got over and got down it would be gone...

I chanced it, and slipped the bitch through the wire while I stayed put. Down the beam she went, getting faster and faster, BANG! She struck the rabbit as it jumped and it went so high I had to follow up with the beam, she jumped at it and pinned it as it hit the ground. It must have jumped 3ft easily! A good catch to see...

The next few we took on the way back to the van as the rain was getting stronger. The first was over very quick, and the second was round the field, out below the gate and she nailed it on the lane...

The last rabbit of the night was brilliant...It was sat tight to a drain, I set the little bitch into the field and she was on it like a shot, she spun it round and up and down the drain for at least 15 seconds until it went all or nothing and jumped into the drain, I couldnt give her anymore light from my angle and as I run up to try, I could hear her splashing and crashing up and down the drain...A loud squeal and it was all over...I got there to catch her in the beam, knee deep in water and a very wet rabbit in her mouth...I let her carry it back to the van!

11 for the freezer, a good night and a satisfied little bitch. :victory:
