andyfr1968 772
Mate, it don't matter a crap what the gun looks like, the bunnies won't give marks out of ten for looks. So long as it works OK with what you've got on it, then who gives a toss. Quote Link to post

zini 1,939
Hi beddy, Just wandered if that tape is waterproof pal as I was thinking if it isn't and your action and barrel get wet they will rust and you won't see it as it starts to destroy your blueing etc bud, Me personally I think the rifle doesn't look very nice and it's not my cup of tea mate, but then again as is already stated it's your rifle and if your happy with it that's what counts. I wish you all the best with it. Si Quote Link to post

Si hi at least i get one sensible reply. i have only used a cheap rifle sock wich is easly removed i will take on board your advice about the action and barrel geting rusty cheers mate. p.s the other replys make you fell that you should not cover up your gun to protect it or reduce glare i am not bothered about looks it was done them for the reasons , maybe i should remove it and let my £600 quid s510 get marked up just to finish the buunys cant see mummy coming . thats me done Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Very good point about moisture, and therefore rust forming beneath the cammotape. There is also the possibility of having to surgically cut it to seperate the stock from the metalwork when a bit of maintainance is due. Sorry mate, it's not the best idea of rifle cammo. I never bother personally, I like my beech and walnut and blueing together. But, you could strip off the stuff from the metalwork and just cammo the stock. That would be really all you need, if cammo be needed. The Mummy comment.... That made my Saturday lunchtime! Simon Quote Link to post
zini 1,939
Cheers Beddy bud The comment Simon made ref: But, you could strip off the stuff from the metal work and just cammo the stock. Is a real good idea pal as you will then get the camo effect and not damage your metal work. You will also be able to lightly oil your metal work after every outing like my rifles get. This keeps them rust free and well maintained. ATB Si Edited November 13, 2010 by zini Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
Mate, it don't matter a crap what the gun looks like, the bunnies won't give marks out of ten for looks. So long as it works OK with what you've got on it, then who gives a toss. Mine was a genuine reply.... The point I was trying to make is that cosmetics don't matter in the feild. I'm a big fan of function over form every time. Cheers. Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Thank You Si buddy Hi Beddy mate. There's good, sound reasons why you have opted to give your rifle a cammo-up. But, it's just the way you've gone at it that has left a couple of impracticals with completely covering it this way, as we've already highlighted. At this time of year the sun, if it's clear weather, is low, sharply bright and casts a long shadow; such as it's doing here now at 14:40 p.m. Use your fieldcraft know-how to get you into positions that are inside or under shade and shadow-fall and that will eliminate glint and glare from your rifle's metals; plus, you have substantially reduced the visible effects of the rifle's unfamiliar, unnatural shape amid the foliage background as you shoulder the weapon into aim. Practical compromises can be made to work just as well as no-compromise measures. ATB Simon Edited November 13, 2010 by pianoman Quote Link to post
Sweeney-Todd 208
hi lads i but some camo on my rifle just need to get some sticky camo now for all the black bits what do you think does it look ok or a bit tacky dont mind what comments i get good or bad Hiya Beddy. Is that a sock type thing you have pulled over the rifle mate? Its done what you wanted to achieve, and broke up the rifles outline and covered the shiney bits. As already been said, need to take it off after every session to dry the rifle and oil/clean. Also dry your camo before putting it back on the rifle mate. I use a woolen scarf type thing to break my rifle outline up somtimes, its held on with elastic bands ive made, the bands can be used to add natural folage too. Different folks different strokes buddy, good effort. ATB. Bill. Quote Link to post
