Sighthound Blood

Recommended Posts

Does anyone work pure greyhounds? Seems that not many do. Why is this? And why are greyhounds favoured for the track? High top speed?

What does whippet blood add to a greyhound? Is it purely to get the size down a bit?

Saluki adds stamina I believe?

I know deerhound adds a bit of fire, height, good feet etc. Are deer/greys too big for bunnies regularly or is this a myth that they cannot get down to pick up?

Just curious and trying to learn as much as i can about sighthounds and Lurchers.

worked an x track greyhound years ago little bitch and it was fantastic never had any bother with her feet and very rarely picked up any injuries. john.

I see allot of myths thrown around like black men have big dicks and greyhounds are dumb,no air bla bla bla. I can only speak for track dogs here in the states as I've only seen a few open field cours

salukis do add stamina, and you right about deerhound bringing fire, good feet ,and height ,but yes it is a myth that they car,nt catch rabbits, they can catch them with ease ,well mine can any way he stands at 30tts

Some people do work greyhounds but they are crossed with other breeds to add intelligence, better coat, better feet, etc,(lurcher).

Putting two breeds together also gives you hybrid vigour which increases the attributes mentioned above.

The main reason whippet is put in the mix is to probably add early pace.

Large deerhound types will take rabbits but there are better crosses more suited to the task.Large deerhound types are more suited to bigger stuff.

There are loads of ole boys over here that run greyhounds on jack rabbits and coyotes. As far as deerhound adding "fire" to a greyhound..........BULLSHIT! Might slow them down, make them bigger, I guess add a "better coat" but they aint adding fire to a greyhound.

maybe you guys got different deerhounds or we,ve got different greyhounds, :hmm:

theres always hybrid vigour to be gained as well by mixing it up,

Got to agree with Dan; most Greyhounds I've seen didn't need any extra "fire" ! Deerhound adds coat, feet, nose, and, if the right Deerhound is used, stamina to a Greyhound.

Cheers.

maybe not fire but as you say, stamina, coat, nose, feet and not forgetting some brain.

No, I'd say they are about the same. Big KC type deerhounds that couldnt catch a cold with a coat that is too long and does nuttin but pick up burs. And.......greyhounds that are psychotic, thin skinned, way too friggin fast to be useful with shitty feet. Nope, I'd say a little water in between us dont make us an entirely different world.
