Guest Ditch_Shitter
Eh? Originally mate, a " Rick Net " would have been what it sounded like. Simply put; A net one would tie over a Hay Rick to stop winds like todays blowing it all to kingdom come! If ye've found them mentioned in relation to ferreting? Maybe it's in referance to what some used to call " Bolt Nets " ? Just a big web of mesh that ye draped over the hole and the bun got all tangled up in it. As opposed to " Purse " nets which, as ye obviously know, have draw cords and a peg. May be talking out my arse here. But I can't imagine anything much else. Can you? Quote Link to post

mole catcher 1
locally here in suffolk a ric net was nothing more than a short long net placed round the base of a ric at threshing time, manly to slow down the odd rabbit and the rats that had taken up residence in it. maybe its just a term of phrase rather than a type of net? edited to add that it is a very old term from the late 1800s Edited December 31, 2006 by mole catcher Quote Link to post

Alcohol is a funny thing, to little and you tell the truth, to much and you start to see things that others dont, somewhere in between is normally where the wife tells you to shut up Quote Link to post

mole catcher 1
now brought up old topic see above (rat nets) cheers after reading the rat net thread i think it was a 10yrd net made with 1inch mesh that had been made just for ratting the hay rics, sounds like a lot of work to me but good fun to have a go at  Quote Link to post
