socks 32,253
Myself, and CHALKWARREN had a few hours ferreting, yesterday morning. Just a quick run out to try some of this years young ferrets. Although it was a beautiful Wiltshire morning,.it was also a bit blowy out on the open Plains, so we tried for a few rabbits in a nice sheltered belt of woodland. The holes, and most of the warrens, were covered and hidden with a thick blanket of fallen leaves, and purse netting them would of been a farce. So we decided on some long nets. The young ferrets started slowly, but all of a sudden, they realised what the craic was, and we were in business. The rabbits were bolting well, leaving the warrens, and hitting the long nets at one a hell of a rate! Thank God for 6z Nylon, because with a team of keen young ferrets on their arses, followed up by two determined lurchers, they really did go for it. The rabbits came to the nets, one after the other, and everything was going to plan with CW working the nets all along the bottom of the wood, whilst I stood on top with Tegan. It was great to see him running around despatching rabbits in nets, and actually doing some work for a change! His young lurcher, Dusty was getting plenty of experience, and same as Tegan, pulled off one or two superb catches, close to the burrow. The highlight of the morning for me was when CW got bitten by a rabbit... This is not a common occurrence, indeed, very few ferreters have ever experienced such a thing. For him,.having killed thousands of rabbits over the years, it was pay back time,...and it was entertaining to watch.. In truth, it must of hurt, because CW squealed like a baby, and his fingers bled like a stuck pig,..lol.. He obviously enjoyed it, because as the morning progressed, he was bitten,.... twice more! Surely this must be a UK record...lol. THE AREA WE FERRETED ................. DUSTY LEARNING FROM THE BLACK DEATH ......... DUSTY GETTING BACK UP FROM HER MATES ................ ME OR DUSTY ??? ......... YEP DUSTY LOL ......... SOME NICELY NETTED ............... A NICE POSE ........... END OF THE DAY 30 HEALTHY RABBITS IN THE BAG ........... Quote Link to post
