robo-christ 40
p***y= bastardisation of pavee meaning irish traveller's and gypsy= old way of saying Egyptian which is where the English people originally thought that Romanies where from
Rolfe 2
As i understand it the term "p***y" derived from the fact that Romany Gypsies used camp on the outskirts of villages usually at a crossroads or junctions and these were known as" turnpikes" and the general consensus is that it originated from there. Because the Romany Gypsy was quite dark skinned it was thought that they may have originated in Egypt and the word Gypsy may well have been an abbreviation of the term Egyptian........ but this is often refuted. Leewx 2
p***y is directly derived from pike which, circa 1520, meant to "go away from, to go on" and related to the words turnpike (toll-road) and pike-man (toll-collector) Got that from Wiki but i thought it came from pavee too. The English term Gypsy (or Gipsy) originates from the Greek word for "Egyptian", Αιγύπτιοι (Aigyptioi, whence modern Greek γύφτοι gifti), in the belief that the Romanies, or some other Gypsy groups (such as the Balkan Egyptians), originated in Egypt, and in one narrative were exiled as punishment for allegedly harbouring the infant Jesus. staffs riffraff 1,068
no it was mean in jest but thats just a stereotypical view maybe a bigger percentage of gypsy work more than white british
MuttleMcTuttle 21
I always had a vague idea that P***y came about because of the turnpikes, never heard of the pavee definition. Gypsy, I was led to believe came from Egyptian, and the Romany or Romani people originated in India? They have a very colourful and fascinating history...
