rutland12 0
Hi Need help! Getting bad results from my 1517 when using blue tipped hornady 17g. Red tips were a little beter but was never really happy with them. Tested gun yesterday after testing reloads for my 223 which were very good. Groups for 1517 very poor indeed (all over the place with mod on or off. Barrel clean and gun supported . 100 yd groups about 2 and half inch with flyers happening on every group. My previous CZ was the reverse as I had the same problem with remmies and the red tips worked OK. Please let me know if you have the same set up and your preferences. I am going to start over with different brands but hope to start in the right place if poss to avoid wasting time. Thanks Tony Quote Link to post
ace32 4
i found with my cz,i had to put a fair few rounds through her to bed her in,same with my mates, was ready to bin it,but she shoots sweet as a nut now,red or blue tips,no bother,we only clean when acuracy goes off, need to as we mainly head shoot our bunnies,,just our preference,ok,ian Quote Link to post

jamie g 17
1st off you could have some bad batches of ammo. that sthe trouble with rimfire stuff you think its the rifle and sometimes it the ammo. i had a annie hmr and the best ammo i allwasy found in it was federal ammo then hornday red tips. sounds sill but make sure your scope mounts are all tight. and have a little look at the crown on the rifle see if that is ok. it should be as they are resesed on the annie so you cant really knock them. also give the rifle some rounds now if you have really cleaned it Quote Link to post

The rifle is as new and very well looked after and run in very carefully. Every thing is set up correctly. I have not had the chance to try many different brands of ammo. I have read some posts where some say the remmies perform well so I might start with federal and remmingtons. Trouble is I have a lot of the blue tips. They may be for sale very soon ! rutland12 0
Hi mine will shoot most things but Remmingtons are what it likes the best will do a 5 pence group at 100 yards when I do my part. Thanks for the help. I will try those this weekend. Can I ask about your set up and cleaning routine. As I mentioned in the original post I was gutted when the blue tips started flying all over the place. I am getting nothing like you are although I can get touching groups with my reloads on the tikka t3 223 at 100 yds. I have the thumbhole stock fitted with a wildcat mod and Zeiss conquest 6x20x50. Any info would be great Thanks Tony Quote Link to post
danebrewer10 6
I have the 1517 as well, my groups aren't as bad as yours but certainly not stellar (to the order of 1"-1 1/2", though I did shoot a 3 round group not bigger that a 5p bit edge to edge, I can slide a fag paper between the barrel and forend, but not a piece of regular paper, I think that when I rest the rfle on a surface, that the forend is bent and touches the barrel, more so if I lean on the stock, I had it test fired and it was returning one hole 5 shot groups, so the barrel is not to blame, I guess it was only sitting very lighly on the forend, closer to the trigger guard and not right out at the end of the forend, I'm going to investigate having the barrel channel widened to see if that helps, as the berrel does not sit centrally in the channel, the chaps at the gunshop said that the HMR barrel does not vibrate enough for that to matter, but I beg to differ.... cleaning is vital, as my rifle, accuracy drops off after about 15-20 rounds, and dosen't appear to be affected by being clean, the first time I shoot it after cleaning of remington, hornady and federal, mine likes the federal the best, there shouldn't be any difference between the blue and red tips as I think the blue tipped ammo is just left over bullets from when the made bullets for the HM2, but the sales didn't really take off as they expected so they loaded them in the HMR instead.
