Fortunate son 0
can anyone out there help ,i have just started beating and my little bitch hunts as hard,if not harder than any dog on the shoot.her recall is good until she enters cover or is out of site,i just cant stop her is there anything that i can do or is it too late, any advice is gratefully appreciated thank you very much Firstly stop beating with her she will get progressively worse.. She more and likely chasing and hunting for herself..She will need to go into a rabbit pen where theres plenty of scent. And where u will be able to get to her . In the pen tighten her pattern by tightening her beat qrt her two steps sideways on back you that is she must turn to ur whistle you dont cover any ground fast.It wil bore u shitless and her but it will make her stay close. Is she steady to flush? if not get some pigeons clipped sit her up throw them to the ground to her side if she moves to get em stop her place back on the spot ..Sit stay recall all basics then back to basics till the lessons learnt but being honest seek out a pro trainer or someone who runs obediant spaniel...get yerself a book joe irving spaniels there learning chain or pa moxtons these will help u regards me Quote Link to post

Dan Newcombe 58
Same as above There is no shortcut to this it is all down to perseverance. Tell her to sit, then blow the stop whistle when she does it (right in front of you not when she is running around) Keep doing this until she sits instantly to the whistle every time. Then do it when she is mooching about (not when she is taking off after something, she will just ignore it). Use the stop regularly and chuck a dummy so it is not boring her too much. Then when you throw the dummy, send her and stop her halfway. If she doesnt stop just take the retrieve back and move on. You will gradually build up the stop. Whatever you do dont take her near anything or let he rout of your sight. Its a long road but rewarding at the end................good luck Quote Link to post

Dan Newcombe 58
I would also try perfecting her heel work, this will let you get control back if it all goes wrong and bring the focus back on you. Dont worry about her becoming 'sticky', its a lot easier to rev a dog up than rein it in! Quote Link to post
