ratattack 111
Buy new and it will last for years.I have a Brno and it is a great rifle, very accurate! The rifling can get worn out on older rifles, i wouldn't buy a 2nd hand .22 as they can have had thousands of rounds put through them and are often traded in when getting less accurate. You never know what you are getting, Just my view though. Devonhunter ! 9
To be honest i dont think you could go wrong with a secondhand .22lr , simple reason its not a hot round so dosnt burn alot of powder so hence it dosnt burn the barrel out. Quote Link to post

hw100sniper 2
I bought my 22 second hand and have had no problems with it as far as accuracy goes ,obviously I cant tell how many rounds have been through it but its dated '76 so there must have been 1 or 2 before I got it anyway. halamrose 24
From what I've read, i.e. talking out of my R's, bad cleaning is more likely to damage the barrel than shooting. If your concerned about accuracy 1st decide what accuracy you will except, then see the rifle produce a group and see if it measures up. One of my frustrations with a lot of discussion of accuracy is how often its not measured or the range is not given, or its not specified if the measurement is edge to edge or centre to centre, even in professional magazine articles - oops I'm starting to rant. trooperman 73
thats a load of cobblers mate you can not run out the barrel on a rimfire since the early days of the .22 the round has been smothered in wax also lead is a lubricant there is not enough propelent in the case to do any lasting damage either ask any rifle builder they will tell you as well,, if you look down a rimmy barrel and it looks like it is worn out ask the dealer to put some lead disolver down it and give it a scrub you will see all the wax and crap come out to reveal a non worn out barrel honestly mate second hand wont mater the only reason for buying new is you get a warranty with it,,,,you can buy old service .22lrs that have had thousands of rounds through them and still shot as tight today as they did 100 years ago. paul Quote Link to post

I have a 20 yr old annie 1451, it doesn't miss a beat, barrel wear isn't an issue unlike some centrefire rifles as long as it's been looked after it'll be fine, just one word of advice tho, try before you buy.
