what dog would you recommend

ok so i have run bullx for years now and although they suit my needs in general they certainly dont suit a lot of the land i run,just to heavy going with poor feet and injury's are encountered on a nightly basis,from the usual cuts and scrapes to the more serious wounds that can put the dog out of action for weeks at a time with knocked up toes also common,so just thought id put a few pics up and ask your thoughts.

so at first glance doesn't look to bad

but as you can see from these,really can be tough going,flint really is the bain of my life,more so the dogs obviously

if i was to run a rabbiting dog on this type of land,that had no saluki in its make up what would you recommend,something light agile and obviously with very good feet im guessing

also if there is anyone within about an hour or so drive from Watford herts that has a good dog that wants to offer me a night out to watch their dog work this type of ground id be very grateful, as my bitch is confined to the kennel once again for a week or so ,don't want to go out mob handed with a bunch of clowns,just a bloke with his dogs that knows what hes on thanks

you cant go wrong with the old breeds mate, deerhound.... collie.... I reckon its more important to get the dog from working stock than it is what type of dog if its for rabbits.

so what happened to using a dog fit for the land your running then mate...........my bullx from working stock doesn't mean it suits the ground,ok she not out and out rabbiting dog just saying in relation to her build, etc

from the pic's would say any dog will have feet problems running that sort of ground, i would go for something whippet size rather than something big heavy, my whipp x collie x gry does ok on ground a bit like that

Yeah, I know what your saying but if the dog is suited to the land but is from some puppy peddlar who never runs his dogs, your dog isn't worth shit now is it? Most of the old breeds are still around because they can cope with all terrains. I've had a bull cross and I may have been unlucky but the feet were awful, long stragly toes. As I said, if your main concern is feet, cant go wrong with a collie or deerhound cross.

I would think german shepard cross, a half cross might be a bit heavy for rabbits though, or how about a wheaten cross,I know a half cross airedale,that can run any were,again bit slow though.I find half cross to slow.If its just for rabbits i would go for whippet,greyhound,saluki cross,If both parents have good feet would it matter what cross?

WATCHMAN can you not get in contact with other lads that run that sort of ground regular,,, i belive theres a few good lads around hampshire, wilts , ect that run flint all the time,,,,, maybee get somthing there breeding,, if they sell ya pup. if not

ive a wheaten / whippet. he has good strong feet but i recon he would cut up on that ground also.

i would look at a good collie cross or bitsa with the right ingredients. wheaten / beardie/ whippet/deerhound. etc. good luck

hi mate not ruling it out pal just wanted to see what people came up with thats all,and yes im on the scrounge for a night out with someone but understand it may be difficult as i generally go it alone and don't know many lads
