What is to become of the Patterdale

Recommended Posts

Over the last few weeks it has been my misfotune to meet a few pet owners with ridiculous parodies of pats, who have proudly informed me that their dogs are patterdale,

These dogs were oversized and unsuitable in every way as a working terrier.

An aquantance of mine asked me if i wanted "another Patterdale", when i asked why, i was told that he was getting rid of a bitch becauase she threw white pups in her last litter, he said thats ok as i can sell them as "jackerdales" or Patterjacks, or some other stupid name, but they dont go for as much money as the "pure Patterdales"

I fear for the black dogs, are they to become another ruined terrier, with only a few strains, that have the minerals ?

It's putting up pictures like the one Foxfan just put up that has all the macho wannabee types keeping them. There were articles and books written 40 and 50 years ago that stated that we had to mind

I don't care what clowns breed off for pets.if a black fell type from working stuff goes to a pet home chances are it ll be in ads for free when it reaches 14-18 month for killing a cat of rabbits as most of them funny batterjack type people like keeping prey animals of some sort and a dog busting to work will eat them out of jackerdales.Fact is any kennels I have contact with will only part dogs to working homes where they can get a future service or just see how the dog comes on.As long as there's terriermen there ll be blacks.

As long as there are true terriermen there will be true earthdogs. Those that breed the best dont let their stock fall into the hands of the puppy peddlars. Im sure in the future the fell type will develop into a show dog but im also sure that the working lines will still be strong if you look in the right places.

There were articles and books written 40 and 50 years ago that stated that we had to mind our working lines and protect them from the show fraternity and the peddlers.

Guess what???? Years later even after our sport has been seriously curtailed by the law we have workers as good if not better than ever.

It's just that nowadays those that have them can't shout it from the roof tops. But they're there.
