Worried!

Hi all,

 

Picked up my first rifle on Monday night but didn't get around to posting the paperwork untill Wednesday due to work.

 

Obviously sent the form to the firearms unit recorded delivery but I've just been on to the Post Office's website and tracked it, and it hasn't been delivered!

 

Doubt there would be anybody there to receive it on a Saturday, Sunday is out leaving only Monday!

 

I have the receipt to prove I posted it in good time, does this absolve me or am I in the $hit already?

I've actually emailed my transfer forms to them twice (both times were for silencers) and asked if this was an okay form of delivery and if not to tell me asap so that l could send them the form by P&P but they told me both times that this was an okay form of delivery. I find this easier because sometimes l forget to send the form for a number of days and email is usually instantaneous and it saves me the cost of a postage stampthumbs.gif

The legislation says that it has to be sent, in writing, using recorded delivery. The plod might SAY that email is fine, but I'm sure they'd deny it if it came to a court of law.

 

My FEO looked somewhat surprised that I had acquired a .22 and a shotgun, which were written on my old cert, but not on the new cert he came round to issue. I had the receipts for recorded delivery, and photocopies of the form (the one they send out with the certificate) filled in, so he thinks the HQ team have lost the paperwork (which seems to be a regular occurance!)

 

Write a letter with the details, or use one of the forms. Photocopy it, and send it recorded delivery. That way, if they lose it you are covered. Remember that if you buy from a dealer, they will send the details too.

The only reason I emailed it was that I noticed my RFD faxing the forms to the firearms department both times I received my rifles from him. I asked him if that was a valid form of delivery and he said yes so then l asked him if he thought if l would be okay emailing them to the firearms department and he couldn't see anything wrong with it. Both times l emailed the form to them l made sure that l was asking them the question if this was an okay form of delivery and they emailed me back both times okaying it so if anything were to go wrong they would have a problem denying it when l have kept both of they're emails acknowledging my emails asking if this was a valid form of delivery!
