Rat Bait Stations? (Calling All Pest Controllers!)

Alright, lads? I know a good many of you here are Professional Pest Controllers yeselves. So here's the craic;

 

I've been working on a small book about ~ would ye believe? ~ The History and Developement of the Bait Station. Been at it for long enough now to have identified an absolute blank spot. c. 1960 - 1970 or so. I've managed to turn up next to Nothing from that missing decade.

 

What I DO know is that I once - at that time - handled a Box of the period. Laughable affair it was. Galvanised, rectangular box. Lid had two clips to keep it on. Simple baffle at either end. Boosh! And that's All I have to go on. I know what they used before. I know what we've used since. I'm keeping myself abreast of what's coming out as we speak. But I Desperatly need to rediscover what was going on during those 'Lost Years'.

 

Incidentaly; I'd also Love to have a word with anyone who served with Rentokil. Ye see, I have some of their older kit here and want to poke about amongst what ever else they may have used. I've approached the firm but they're a bit big and busy. Very kindly invited me down to R&D, but that's in England and I'm not. Just can't do it. Need to chat to someone on this thing.

 

If ye need any persuading? Let me just point out that Everyone who provides useable information, samples, etc. will be credited, by name, in this forthcoming volume. And it IS going to be printed. This isn't some silly pipe dream. Too many people have already invested far too much for me to ever drop the idea now, if I ever wanted to. Which I don't. It's fasinating the crap out of me!

How long's a piece of string, Rick? No, fact of the matter is that I have yet to get that last two or three major suppliers on board, mate. I've had absolutely breath taking support from the majority of big makers and suppliers. Obviously, I need to own examples of Everything. No good sitting around reading catalogues for my insights. Most have Very generously donated much of their entire ranges - one of each, obviously. I've also been overwhelmed by the generosity of my fellow Pesters. The Lads have broken their backs to get out there and find me the weirdest and most Lost designs. I'm deeply grateful

 

Now, as I say, I need at least the information on the (probable?) era of the galvanised box. Then I just need to make eyes at the bosses of those last supply firms who have their own models. That and mop up the 'Other' designs out there, and as many foreigners as I can get at. Despite the Crates I've had through my door, as donations, I've also spent a small fortune on stuff I couldn't beg and am yet ready to spend more.

 

I'm also gathering some fantastic old adverts, for Baits. Even old Bait Tins and such. Always good, aren't they?

 

It's a labour of love, mate. I just have this need to get stuff down. Recorded and available for us and the future. (Must be my age?). But, to me, there's nothing more heart wrenching than two blokes sitting in a pub and saying; " Do you remember when we used to have those ....? "

 

What sweeter than to be able to say; " Ye know what? I actually still Have one of those f*cking things, at home! Straight up! ". Or, at least, to be able to take down a book. Open it. And gaze in fond memories at a good, annotated photograph of one

 

I s'pose it's called " Nostalgia " ? And, in a fast moving world like todays, things become lost so quickly that all we soon have is a vague, misty eyed memory. Nostalgia.

 

I intend to preserve 'tomorrows memories' today. Or, at least within the next year or so, eh?

ds that was before i started pestin so i have no information on old boxes,however another forum i am on would be right up your street plenty of x rentos on there.you should be able to gleen what you need and more.the site is called the pest control forum,any problems with it give me a shout.
